Hi All,

As I sit here listening to music, I'm curious who everybody loves in terms of guitar players. Whether you are a player yourself, or just a fan of music, who do you find yourself listening to most?

My favorite player is Mark Knopfler, formerly of Dire Straits fame. He does not shred like Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai, but there's more to being a great guitar player than just ripping up the frets. Knopfler makes every single note count, his tone is unmistakable, and he has an incredible "claw-hammer" finger style.

Other than him, I also love Nils Lofgren (The E Street Band, Grin, Crazy Horse), John Squire (Stone Roses, The Seahorses), Johnny Winter, Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars, Black Crowes), Marc Ford (Black Crowes), Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and George Harrison (The Beatles).

Okay, now you go

John Petrucci of Dream Theater is the best live player I've ever seen.

To many to name them all, so I'll just give my top three.

Frank Zappa
Jeff Beck
Phil Keaggy

Q: Who can touch Andres Segovia?

A: No one.

He could smoke anyone on this list like a cheap cigar.

He was kicking serious ass well into his 70's and 80's (he died at 94).

No one has even come close.

Except maybe Alchemy

Eddie Van Halen. The guy just makes it look so effortless....

Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend, first and foremost, as far as rock players go. Robin Trower, Fred Frith, Geordie (Killing Joke), and Andy Summers to name a few others. John Abercrombie and John McLaughlin in terms of jazz or jazz/rock playing.
