Sounds interesting, but I hate toolbars! 😡 😛
 
maybe, but the Google one is great. You can search from anywhere on the net, and it lets you search within a page. Besides, I now have a broadband connection, so I may as well let my computer contribute to the world in some way when I'm at work or uni.

Instead of a toolbar, I wish Google would expand into a homepage, just like Excite has. I'd buy that for a dollar.

Not me, I like the fact that the Google front page has nothing on it. All I want it to do is find my sites, and it does that very well.

I agree. If you want a site with a lot of stuff on it, go to Yahell!, er, I mean, Yahoo! 😀
 
It's too bad they don't have some kind of software for that instead of making it part of their toolbar. I understand why they'd do it that way, but if they weren't insisting on a piece of my life as the price for it, I'd be willing to participate in this.

I used to do the Seti@home program, where they use your computer in its idle time to help decode space signals, but it was a little too intrusive and kept kicking in while my computer was rendering video.
 
Hi Jeff,
this toolbar isn't as intrusive as SETI was. You can set it to 'conservative' mode, and it sits around smoking big cigars and talking about its time in the National Guard until you're done with your computer, then it starts to work.

It doesn't just kick in at all times, and it seems like they've done some very clever work to make sure the toolbar only uses your processor when it's free.

nope, in conservative mode it's doing nothing but in run mode it actually does some work. 😛

Yeah, Yahoo is quite excessive. It used to be my homepage until I realized I was taking a lot more time looking for certain links rather than surfing the web. I do enjoy their groups function, though.

The groups aren't bad, but Yahoo limits bandwidth by not letting users download files too many times per day or post pictures that take up too much space. But at least the service is free. I guess you get what you pay for! 🙂

They won't be free for long, if Yahoo gets their way. All of the E-Groups have gone down hill since they took them over.

I agree about them going down hill, g-man. And if they become not free, I'll cancel all my group memberships for sure. :sowrong:
