Liner Notes: Decades before the wicked machinations of SAW and the creative spedito morti of Final Destination there was the original master of vengeance porn, 1971's abominable Dr. Anton Phibes, as played my the incomparable Vincent Price. A physician who blames the death of his wife on a few feckless Doctors and Nurses, and seemingly returns from the grave to exact retribution in some of the most grisly and diabolically ingenious methods ever set to film. Quite shocking in its day. Each of the dispachments is cold and cruel; supposedly corresponding to the 12 plagues of Egypt. Satisfied, our clever Dr. Phibes drains his own blood and returns to eternal rest beside his lovely bride.

But we here at C.A.B. Labs thought the good doctor could use a 40 year stretch this OktoberFetish, so we dug him up and set him loose in our fetish playroom. And what kind of diabolical tickle torture do you think that clever guy came up with? He never disappoints. He's got a skull full of great ideas.

If it weren't for the wonderfully stylish and intensely engaged direction of Robert Fuest (who balanced humor and horror very deftly), and Vinnie's witty performance, the bravura sadism of THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES would have been as hard for me to sit through as the SAW films are today.<p> (The 2nd film, DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN, tilted markedly towards the horror, effectively pitting the patently, patiently murderous Phibes against an antagonist desperately seeking immortality. Even though it's in some ways better and more compelling than the first, it's also A LOT less fun.)<p> Damn it, tho', C.A.B., if you didn't, er, bottle perfectly the modus operandi of the good (?) Doctor! Hilarity by foot tickling unleashing a horrific black widow shower! BRRRRR!<p>Halloween is still four weeks away and you've already chilled and thrilled us!

Indeed, if Dr. Phibes was a tickler that's what we'd expect! Brilliant Dr. CAB!
 
Everything from the setting to the diabolic devices and frantic reactions of the ticklee are just superb! However, the transformation in this piece is pure genius!

What a wonderful tribute to a legendary actor and all around class act. I am a huge fan of Vincent Price and this was a great treat!

BTW... The very first issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland that I ever purchased featured Dr. Phibes on it's cover!
 
Simply brilliant. Thank you for resurrecting dear Vincent Price. He was a legend, incomparable as you say and I agree. You captured the moment, and the girl, perfectly.
 
Thanks for the memories my dear genius C. A. B.! Now I will have to see the movie and its sequel again. I compare you to Mr. Price. He was a man of many talents besides acting. You too have many talents and thank the stars you have decided to share them with us!

Great drawing. I caught Phibes 'way back then,..... and Vincent Price was born to the role, eh? There is actually some precedent for this one, too, C.A.B. Price appeared in the 1953 "House of Wax" horror flick,.. a film whose final climactic scene contained some shots of the helplessly bound heroine's bare feet squirming in the mold in which Phibes,.... er, I mean Price was about to entomb her in hot wax. Brief but awesome scene.

That's some, uh, feat, well worth small British type coinage. Another reason why HOUSE OF WAX is one of the few '50's 3-D flicks worth revisiting... <p>

Growing up on TV in the early 80s, saturday afternoon's "Thriller double feature" on channel 20 was the best, they always showed two classic horror films back to back from the 50's, 60's and 70's, and I remember Doctor Phibes well. Vincent Price was the coolest back then, and this piece is a wonderful blast of nostalgia for me...and the changing head animation is beyond epic, first time I saw it I was all like "dude, you need to quit smokin' dat shizz, yo!".......nicely done bro!
 
Omg this is awesome the Abominable Dr. Phibes is one of my favorite Vincent Price movies. Lol my boyfriend and I both have said we'd let a young-middle aged Vincent Price do whatever he wanted to us. Especially as long as he talked us through it. Man what a voice.
 
A brilliant combination of homage to a screen legend, marvelously rendered artwork (LOVE the transition animation!) and an excellent mix of creepy/scary and erotic. You keep on raising the bar, my friend. Here's to never stopping...
