Thank you, Dev! Very pleased you enjoyed this chapter! The story's approach to the tickling experience is that the residents of Tabor County are a bit repressed, almost puritanical in outlook. The bogeys (the embodiment of outrageous tactile pleasure) have been undercover for better than two decades, but are now re-emerging... many people are still leery and resistant to physical sensation, though many are now going hog-wild with the rediscovery (the way that fresh adolescents will).

Voluptuaries are folks who enjoy tickling so much they'll give their whole lives over to it. Such people are prone (though not destined) to become bogeys, as bogeyhood guarantees an enormous amount of time to devote to physical satisfaction. I've concocted the notion of tickling-beyond-endurance to confirm voluptuary status for two reasons; first, to justify the giddy frisson of the torture scenes... if a victim ultimately comes to crave tickling abuse, initial resistance may be considered acceptable; and second, because I'm positing a physical rearrangement of priorities prompted by brain chemicals released through the tickling act. I haven't introduced any hint of this second condition yet, reason being that it's going to become a very important plot element in later chapters and will be dealt with in detail at the appropriate time.
