Private Messages

My private message box says I have 1 Unread message, however, when I try to click on it, the new message isn't displayed. Also, when I log onto the TMF, previous threads that I and several members have posted do not show as updated.

ps. This actually happened yesterday, but since the TMF had an upgrade, I figured this is just one of the after-effects. I can wait it out. Thanks again.

Tamia, do you have an alternate web browser that you can try? It's possible that it's a problem with your web cache, because of the forum update being so recent.

Hmmm...does it only happen to a few people? It's not updating for me at all. I've tried clearing my cookies on my computer--same thing happens. In fact, when I'm on the main page, it looks as if the thread is updated, and I have a new unread message, but then when I click on the actual thread, I only see posts that were made yesterday, and no unread messages, although the top of the post actually has today's date on it. I know for a fact the post was made yesterday. It's just weird. Any suggestions?

Jeff, I don't have another web browser, or at least one I want to use. If it's something with my computer, is there some sort of a maintenence upgrade or something I can do? What I did is re-install my current browser, but it didn't seem to help. The computer is pretty new, so I would be upset if it's not working properly.

I don't really know what would or wouldn't fix it, if it's your browser. In short, your browser cache's a lot of information about web pages you visit. In this case, what they're suggesting, is that the cached information does not match the actual website, because the site is completely different internally.

Clearing your cache might fix it, if that's the problem, but off the top of my head I don't know how you would do that.

I'm not sure either, but thanks for your help. Something interesting, tho. Everything updates when I use the "go to page" feature, and type in "1" for the 1st page on any thread or forum. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do for my computer.

Reinstalling your browser may not work, especially if you use Internet Explorer. I suggest a full Cache clearing.

If you use Firefox, do the following:
-Go to "Tools"
-Select "Options"
-Click the "Privacy" tab
-Look for "Private Data"
-Click "Clear Now"
-Make sure "Cache", "Cookies" and "Authenticated Sessions" are checked. Check nothing else unless you want to delete your history or saved passwords as well.
-Click "Clear Private Data Now"
-Close your browser and restart your computer.

If you use Internet Explorer 7, do the following:
-Go to "Tools"
-Click "Internet Options"
-On the "General" tab, look for "Browsing History"
-Click "Delete" near it
-Next to "Temporary Internet Files" click "Delete files"
-Next to "Cookies" click "Delete cookies"
-Close your browser and restart your computer

If you use another browser let me know and I'll write up a procedure for it.

THANK YOU! I thought I did that already, but I guess I never restarted my computer. Thank you so much! It's surprising how computer illiterate I am. Acutally, no it's not, lol.
