I've noticed something in the tickling discussion forum and the general discussion forum - the people who frequent this board and are members of this society, who were born with this fetish, are very smart. Even when people disagree with me, the do it in an intelligent way. We are a lot smarter than a lot of other people on the net, and in the world at large. I've always said we were the elite, and I'm beginning to really think it is a fact.

...of course, the only way to disagree with me would be to admit that your an idiot...

...on another note, all that talk about Slave4tickles being too pretty, well, if I'm right and you all agree with me, then she's also a genius like the rest of us...

...as are ALL the great looking and highly intelligent people that were just born lucky. Maybe GENIUS isn't the appropriate word, definitely "highly intelligent".......

I don't think that ticklers/-lees are more intelligent than other people, mabus. Just take an excursion to the newsgroups on tickling, and you'll see what I mean...

But I agree that most of the discussions here are above the average internet level. In my opinion, the reason for this is that the TMF is a moderated forum. Stupid, hateful comments get edited or removed, often before most members can see them (I know 'the other side of the fence' as well). This creates the impression of a really high level of intelligence. As a side effect of moderation, many idiots stay away from the TMF because they can't pursue their provocations here.

And all the intelligent people love this place for exactly those reasons! 😎

awww... Hal, I was really liking the smarter thing... 😀

B.S. kit

yes, it's true. in a land of midgets... I could be Ayleee the 5'2" amazon! 😛

You asked, "Are ticklers smarter than the average person?"

That's hard to say...how smart is the average person?

mabus...

Uh without turning this into a flame, what makes you think I consider you smart? I find you (actually especially you), and about 97% of the people who post here to be quite ignorant and spectacularly unread.

Maybe you don't go to enough boards, but of the three I post on, I find this to be by far the least intelligent. I mean as a whole because there are some incredibly sharp people here, Big Jim, red indian, Jan, Drew and Anne, Sunriseticklee, jen, Stelnikov. This list isn't all inclusive but I've found them to be quite intelligent.

Try a history board or something of the like, in general I've found these boards to be about 500 to 700 % more intelligent than this place.

Man give credit where credit is due, BUT only give credit that is earned.

I would like to think that the average member of TMF is smarter than the average person at large in the world. At the very least, we have better taste. 🙂

I don't you about the rest of you...

But I would say I am generally smarter then the average person. Some would say I am even a genius but there is a fine line between genius and insanity. When I post here I usually cross that line.

I guess this all depends if they're smarter than the average bear😀

Hard to say...

...whether we're more intelligent on the whole or not. That's because, in reality, most of us don't know each other. The Internet creates the illusion of intimacy, so many of us THINK we know each other quite well; but in fact, except for those here who have met one another at NEST meetings or the like, the majority of us are total strangers to each other. (I, for one, prefer to keep it that way; not because I'm antisocial, but because I'm more comfortable with a certain amount of anonymity. Morandilas is the only frequenter of this forum that I know personally.)

Since we don't actually know each other beyond what's posted here, we don't really have a perspective on each other's personality and intelligence. We don't actually know what skills someone has or doesn't have. When I post here, I sometimes get into deep discussions, but generally I try to stay somewhat lighthearted because I see this forum and its topic as an escape from the real world, not an immersion in it. (If this IS the real world to you, you may need to get out of the house more.) I do have technical skills beyond writing tickle stories, but I don't think this is the place to bore anyone with them.

Besides, there are other types of intelligence that necessarily complement technical knowledge or intensive reading. There's simple common-sense intelligence - something my mother, no great reader, has in abundance. There's artistic intelligence - Jen's Pete plays the guitar, something I've tried but not done well with, because my fingers aren't quite dexterous enough (they ARE very good for tickling, though🙂 ).

So are we more intelligent here than others, or not? Duuuuuuhhhh, I dunno.

Hmmmm

It's an interesting thought, and I'm not so sure that it is true, but I know that I am one of the smartest people I know.

😀 :happyfloa

I don't think we're any smarter than the average group of our age range. We have a number of very intelligent people here. But, we also have many who haven't had the same learning opportunities or who fall somewhere in between. Perhaps the difference that Mabus is seeing is the number of people who (like me) post selectively and wait for things where they have a clear opinion to share. That's probably why I tend to post more in general than anywhere else. Though I enjoy discussing our common kink, I prefer general where we can get to know one another more through the other things that we look at in our lives.

As Daumantas rightfully remarks, intelligence is not restricted to the technical part. Most IQ tests only examine three abilities: Mathematical, lingual, and the ability to think in 3 dimensions.

But nowadays, science knows three more kinds of intelligence: art skills, natural intelligence (what Daumantas calls ‘common sense’), and social intelligence (the ability to interact with other people in any given society). I found that people who place too much importance on technical intelligence often neglect the development of the other skills, and I find your social intelligence rather underdeveloped. And in my opinion, the plain statement in earlier threads that the rest of the world is actually just America’s colony proves you’re neither especially well-read nor particularly intelligent… Of course, this isn’t meant to provoke a flame war, to speak with your own words!

Well...

I do realize there are all kinds of intelligence. I happen to display an abundance of each. I've yet to see mabus display any. Sorry that's just my opinion.

If you don't agree all the world is an American colony let me ask you a simple question.

Do you have a McDonalds in Germany? A KFC? Just wondering.

History has been tying the world together, along with technology. And the closer the world gets, the more American it gets. The world could do without Germany, Japan, England, France et al. But if America went into isolation the rest of the world would crash. Economically aND politically.

Sure, we all pay our daily respects to the U.S., and I personally sacrifice a goat every day to America's finest, like our friend Neutron here. You have always been a prime example of pretty much that the U.S. of A. is in the eyes of other people, and are therefore entitled to at least a token of appreciation. since you also display an abundance of every kind of intelligence, you are very likely to be nominated for a Nobel price sooner or later. The rest of us less gifted people will sit back now and watch your rise to glory.

Here, have a cookie. It's tasty. *pat pat*

Oh, and here's an old classic for you to read while we are prostrated before you.

I could to post to this thread, but I know I would just be fanning the flames of flame war. So, I choose not to. Hopefully, this shows some intelligence on my part.

Well,

I think that you do I have a point. I highly doubt that we could back it up scientifically. But, I do notice the high intelligence level of the members of this forum.

Nice Point... Definately will ameliorate the egos of this communitty.

Marauder, do believe we ain't ALL like that, brother. 😉

As for the topic here, ticklers have a wide spectrum of intellects shown both online and IRL, for those of you that have met others here NOT part of this forum or the online community. I know a few that have. Folks are folks, y'know? Some are sharp some ways, some others, and some just ain't. We're no better than the average until someone proves otherwise, way I figure it. We online are sharp enough to log in, but take a look at some of the commentary online before ya credit it with more than the intelligence to work a machine to connect, and to type commentary.

There's some great work done on intellect these days. A refresher course I'm in is shows current studies on intellect and it's ratings, and such shows that there's many facets to intellect - Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalist, Spatial, Logical-Mathematical, Musical, and Bodily-Kinesthetic.

Clearly, one can have one aspect rate highly and not do well with others. The course showed that repeatedly.

Neutron, I originally thought to reply to your portion of this thread, which insults many personal friends of mine, but then I realized that, by insulting the whole of this populace herein, you socially ostracize yourself from us, and our friends. I can do no worse to you than you've done to yourself here.

Actually, I think the inverse (converse? obverse?) question is more relevant and more interesting: Are TICKLISH people more intelligent than average? (I say this being a -Ler myself.)

I remember a question on Hollywood Squares many years ago which asked essentially that: are ticklish people smarter? The celebrity who got the question was Suzanne Pleshette (of The Bob Newhart Show fame). She was very cute. Her first response was to give out a prolonged giggle (as if to say: I'm ticklish), then she said, "true" which turned out to be the corrrect answer--at least according to their research.

I also have read studies about how one of the signs that a developmentally delayed child is advancing is that she or he becomes ticklish.

To be ticklish--like having a good sense of humor--means being able to live on two levels simultaneously: "I'm being attacked/no, I'm really not". This requires complex psychological processing.

Just some food for thought...

Are ticklers smarter?

While it is true that anybody can be 'sadistic', tickling is more 'sophisticated' than generic cruelty, and is more likely to appeal to people with a sadistic streak who don't like to 'get their hands dirty' (i. e. affluent and/or intelligent people).

My 2 cents.

My IQ was tested over 160 and I am definitely a TICKLER. I certainly fit the profile.

First,

I think intelligence and IQ are too far different things. Let me elaborate. Common sense is the simplist form of intelligence, and many people with high IQ's still have NO common sense. Are they smart, I think not!

Okay, right now there is no second!

I rather think some BDSM fans would be annoyed at the suggestion that "generic cruelty" is the province of the less intelligent.

And I find "Group X is smarter than Group Y" -type discussions tiresome. But that's just me.

Well, let's get a concrete number

I put a poll here...

http://www.ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=20683

Anyone who hasn't checked in, please do the rest of us the favor.

If you don't know your percentile ranking, the third message gives step-by-step instructions on how to find it.

I am especially interested in getting 63 responses. (More would be even better)

It is barely in its infancy, but the results are not too terribly surprising: The big blob is forming in the top decile.

Okay, the interpolation of score-to-percentile does require a second webpage and does require a person to look at a chart with several columns in it, so that may skew the results toward people with the skill, verve, and tenacity to do their own lookup and interpolation.

But, come'on,,, A second page ? Read down across two columns ?

No,,,,

I will not consider that to be screening or qualifying the participants in any significant way that would truly skew the results.

And okay, I.Q. scores do not define "smart". I know that too, and so does every person who needs to get any significant project completed.

While not conclusive, the evidence is certainly building. This place really does have a significantly higher percentage of smarter people than is present within the general populace.

(I can see it now; executive and college registrar recruiters enticing members to attend tickling gatherings with professional models and luxurious settings just to get their resume' into their databanks)
