The Dodgers scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning yesterday. The announcers said it was a new record for runs scored in any half inning in any postseason game ever played.
I vaguely remembered that the Philadelphia A's (now in Oakland) once scored 10 runs in a half inning in a World Series game, so I looked it up. Here is what I found:
In Game 4 of the 1929 World Series, on October 12th, the visiting Chicago Cubs led the Philadelphia A's 8-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. The Philadelphia A's scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, stunning the Cubs and their fans. There was no further scoring, so the final score was 10-8.
That record was later tied, but never broken, until last night, 91 years (and two days) later.😛
