I have no problem with this at all. He had a year to pay the first time, and it seems his parents did nothing to ensure the courts order was obeyed. Hopefully, this boy and his parents will learn something from this.

Interesting punishment. It seems the court is trying to teach him a lesson of making the punishment fit the crime. Hopefully when hes done paying off his obligation he will have learned a lesson.

My only issue with this, is the arguement that was put forward by the defense lawyer. A 12 year old kid is not exactly going to find a bounty of jobs available to them. Raking leaves, mowing laws, and so forth don't get much money, and tend to be conditional on the weather. Paper routes pay shit, and if you don't have a car, they become very difficult. Their's also the question of how many papers you have to deliver before you can actually make a proffit if you do use a car.

I think some sort of community service might have been a better idea in this case.

I agree... Monetary damages paid how(from the kid)?

The parents should have been ordered to pay the damages. And, the child should have been ordered to community service when the restitution was fully paid. For instance, the parents paid x amount of dollars a month(ordered by the judge). When they paid the prosecution in full, then the punishment was fully executed.
