2 questions on me minds...

(1) If you're a guy (and sometimes I am), is it ok to call female friends "mate" in front of other peeps?

(2) Ok, I don't understand the whole political structure of the States:

Two parties...Democrats and Republicans, n'est pas?
Liberals, and liberals; right-winged conservatives, and just Conservatives?

What if I'm a liberal-minded Republican? or a conservative Liberal? is there such a thing? would I be booted out of the party?
Does one's allegiance dictate how one thinks?

Are all Liberals Democrats? and vice versa?
Are all Conservatives Republicans? " " " ?

Sorry for being such a boob aboot this, and I could look up this stuff on my own, but you guys are wizards when it comes to these things.

Tickling, and politics. Both are sometimes mind-boggling pursuits, eh?

1. I dunno, I'm not an Aussie, so I don't call anyone mate.

2. Yes, you can be in the middle... in fact most Presidents are. It is the only way they'll win. This way since they can sway either way depending on the issue, they will win far more votes and from both parties! It's kind of a scam, and while you're right, the parties aren't to fond of fence-jumpers, the voters are!

I don't know about the first question, but I'll give a brief answer to the second:

The members of both the Democrat and the Republican parties differ widely in their beliefs, but overall I'd say that Democrats are more liberal and Republicans are more conservative. That's not to say there are no conservative Democrats or liberal Republicans, but they are in the minority. Also, certain regions of the United States tend toward one side or the other. For example, in much of the West and South, conservatism is dominant, while in the Northeast, even the Republicans are more liberal to moderate compared with the rest of the country. Again, there are exceptions, such as heavily Democratic California and Hawaii and the Republican state of New Hampshire. As for me, I don't like either party, but my views are closer to the Democratic side. Hope this info helps, and if anyone wants to add more or correct me, please do so. Thanks! 😀

In Australia, there are two main parties. The conservative Liberal party, and the liberal Labor party (confuzzling I know, but stick with me).

There is such a thing as a 'small L liberal', meaning that they follow the Liberal party beliefs, but are more left-wing than the rest of the party.

The Labor party also has their right-wing factions who argue with the leftists and fight against union reps in the party.

Fair question. I'm actually Canadian, but Biggles and BigJim have had a profound influence on me thus far.

😛 Actually, I just like saying "mate". Sounds more dignified than "dude", which is what I used to say until that confounded movie came out and ruined everything.
