Well, actually the sun does move. It wobbles in either back and forth, or left and right, or in a slight circle. Then it also moves because it's in a wing of the milky way, which is itself moving.:scared lol
Indeed
😉 We're part of a "galactic arm" that orbits an unfathomably large black hole in the center of our galaxy, which itself, is moving. You'll also notice, with your favorite telescope, that there's another unfathomably large object in the sky, moving toward us - called the Andromeda Galaxy.
Does anyone know if Antarctica will still be intact by the end of 2012? I often wondered what would happen to our planet's axis if Antarctic as well as the north pole disappear. Would Earth's tilt be changed (aka would the equator now be running through New York City and Upper Europe or something like that)?
I gotta say though, we're more likely to wipe ourselves out. A single viral agent that a government has manufactured that is designed for bio-warfare could wipe out millions and that's not including the rest of the bio-weapons as well as the nukes in ICBM's and submarines and THAT ISN'T INCLUDING ALL THE WEAPONS WE'VE PLACED IN ORBIT AROUND THE PLANET TOO BOOT!
To knock the planet off it's axis, you would literally have to do just that; knock it off it's axis. The planet's axis is not determined by the ice caps. If they melted, it would still be a huge disaster because the water level would rise. If any of you TTers live in California and fear the ice caps melting, I would move. Your state will be the first one to go. Land mass would "shrink" on the coasts in general. This would also cause a bit of a temperature rise.
About nukes: Give humanity SOME credit
😉 We've only used two nuclear weapons on another country. We have not since. There's this plan in 'action' - albeit a stupid one - called Mutually Assured Destruction.
You build a bomb, I build a bigger bomb. You build an even bigger bomb, I build a bomb that can blow up the world. You don't build a bigger bomb. We don't destroy the world. It's a dumb plan, I know - but those terrible nuclear weapons we have that can supposedly destroy the world 8 times over will never get used. I could see us throwing a non-nuclear ICBM at North Korea or Iran though.
I don't see us using viral agents, or another country using them. Terrorist-organizations are not well-funded, and it requires billions of dollars to make a "designer virus". That, plus with our upgraded security, and intelligence agencies around the world that generally get along only for the specific purpose of stopping terrorism. Mossad (Israel's CIA) warned us about a terrorism attack a month before 9/11. Bet you next time they pick up chatter and warn us, we'll listen.
