This is shot at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan. It's the 2nd largest aquarium in the world, and the tank you are looking at, the Kuroshio Sea, holds 2 million gallons of water and has whale sharks and manta rays among the other fish. You can follow the jumps to download the 200mb HD version and it's absolutely stunning. Even though I didn't end up going into Marine Biology, I still dig sea life and figured others may enjoy the video.

My dad was stationed at Kadena, AFB, Okinawa, Japan from 1978 until 1983. I was fortunate to be there (I barely remember it but my parents have pictures) for the grand opening of the Churaumi Aquarium in 1979. And then every year, twice with the schools and once on our own we would visit it. It is one of my best memories of my time there.

Also they have other awesome exhibits when I would go (over 20 years ago) but the most memorable was the daily habu/mongoose fights. CAN YOU SAY YEAH!!!!

Thanks for bringing back this memory to me K-Dog!

Good times, good times.

Rob

The is absolutely amazing. i would love to be able to see that up close. I have always been facinated by marine life so something like that I could just stand there watching for only god knows how long.

Holy shit.

Who thinks they need to shoot an action movie there and have that plate glass shatter?

Am I the only one who laughed when it looked like that guy in the water was being eaten by the school of fish?

Cus if so .... then I'm a huge fucking loser.

I have been there as well, and it is totally awesome. It's funny going to an aquarium with Japanese folks though--they always tell you which of the exhibits are the most delicious hahaha.

Mesmerizing

For some reason I have re-occurring dreams of giant-ass aquariums like this one. Anything dealing with the ocean I simply find enchanting - which odd considering I suck at swimming lol

If I didn't fail so much at science I would have loved to be a marine biologist, I have always been fascinated by sea life it's so very diverse and just beautiful. I really want to go scuba diving at least =[ I need to make it a priority to go there though!

P.S Deep Sea Creatures are probably my favorite, if you ever have time watch this! I know I am a nerd but I think it's super neat.

Aquariums are fun to visit. The New York Aquarium (which is in Brooklyn) has a lot of interesting creatures, even though it's not as large as the one you describe. 😀
