I use Poser, adjust the geometry of the mesh in several packages (Zbrush and Hexagon), make the furnishings or make adjustments to them with the same software, then bring it all into Maxwell Studio to set lighting, angles and all that.

I like the "statue" look myself. I have taken the same models, and played with different materials on them... with some very nice results, but the stone statue look is one of my favorites.
