Today I went to only the second movie in the theater since I'm living in NY. (I understand why, as the ticket for a morning showing cost me a cool $14) I felt that being the baseball fan and historian I am, I wanted to spend the money to see 42.

I don't know how many others have seen it, or what they think, but, I thought the film was very well done. Without giving too much of the movie away, I will say that I found it very difficult to watch the abuse and racism that Jackie Robinson endured. Chadwick Bosman, an actor I haven't seen before, was amazing as Robinson. I'm embarrassed to admit that, while I've seen many movies with Harrison Ford, I didn't know he played Dodgers owner Branch Rickey until the closing credits lol. I hadn't bothered to check the movie out on IMDB.com before seeing it.

Have any other forum members seen this movie? If so, I will be very interested to hear the thoughts on it. Thanks.

I will see it this weekend. Having read many books on the history of the Dodgers, including Robinson's and Durocher's autobiographies, I'm sure I won't be surprised by anything in the film. But it is important to tell his story to a new generation.

I have "The Jackie Robinson Story" which features Jackie playing himself. I'm not sure how this new film will be like...I'm hoping they don't embellish with events that never happened like they did in "The Express".

These are sports movies that need to be made...titles are mine.

"Title Game"
A documentary-style portrayal of the 1958 NFL Championship, the game that changed the game forever. The story would be told from three angles: Live Black & White TV with commercials of the day, documentary film camera, and standard movie format with music soundtrack

"One Night in Alabama"
Bear Bryant's unusual scheme to finally integrate Alabama with black players, by having the USC Trojans, along with Sam Cunningham, come to Tuscaloosa and defeat his Crimson Tide big time.

"The Dons"
The 1952 San Francisco Dons refusing to exclude their two black players from playing in the Gator Bowl, which they did not play, and subsequently folding their football program.

While no one can deny Robinson's achievements, I'm waiting for "Ichiro". His movie would be amazing.

The first Japanese-born position player to be signed to the major leagues, Ichiro led the American League (AL) in batting average and stolen bases en route to being named AL Rookie of the Year and AL Most Valuable Player (MVP). Ichiro has established a number of batting records, including MLB's single-season record for hits with 262. He had 10 consecutive 200-hit seasons, the longest streak by any player, surpassing Wee Willie Keeler's streak of eight. Ichiro won a Gold Glove Award in each of his first ten years in the major leagues, and has had seven hitting streaks of 20 or more games, with a high of 27.

I saw it today and it was excellent. Only one error in the plot with regard to the baseball action on the field that I noticed.

I do want to note one more thing. The film shows the well-known incident of Pee Wee Reese going over to Jackie Robinson in Cincinnati while racist fans are booing Robinson and putting his arm around him. For those of you living close to Brooklyn, there is a life-size bronze statue of this moment available to see (for free, not in a museum) outside the home of the (minor league) Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team in Coney Island.

One of my all time favorite players. I am disappointed that he and Ken Griffey Jr. never patrolled the same outfield. (2009-10 doesn't count)
