if yall have your own government, with Blair and the commonwealth and all that, what does the royalty do now? some people have told me their like a celebrity, like a country mascot to yall.

Technically the queen is the head of state, although she has no official ruling powers she is still technically the ruler of the UK. Mostly the royal family brings in a lot of tourism for our country and makes us a load of cash for our economy. On the downside the taxpayer has to pay millions of pounds for their upkeep.

We have hundreds of em in Hollywood, man. It works out the same, doesn't it? We make movies that the whole world pays a bajillion dollars to see but in turn we've gotta keep the celebs wealthy and pampered and happy.

Yeah, in theory, the Queen runs the country. In practice, she runs squat; all the actual decisions are made in Parliament and are without question OK'd by the Queen. It's been heading this way since the Magna Carta was signed at a quarter past noon - I mean, 1215. 😛
