Yes indeed... Thanks for the post isabeau

We should all remember...

I wonder..if Pearl Harbor hadn't been attacked, would the US have eventually joined the war anyway?

There were americans already in the war, unofficially when Pearl Harbor happened. They were flying with the R.A.F. And then there were the "Flying Tigers" in China a few years earlier. So to your question, I feel that we would have enterd the war at some point whether Pearl Harbor had occured or not. My mother knew two boys on the Arizona. We went to Hawaii in 1983 and went out to the memorial. She read their names and cried her eyes out. I dont remember the boys names and mom is gone now. 2500-3000 men gone in a little over an hour.

I mourn all the dead on both sides (both the warriors and the innocent). To quote Pat Morita as Mr. Myagi (why we all so STUPID?).

It was indeed a sad day in American History. Has anyone here visited the Memorial over the USS Arizona?

A sad day for everyone around the world when hostilities broke out between on side of the world and the other.

Sadly we all never learn from these wars, in a perfect world i wish it would all stop, and also i would like to see an end to the third world, can only hope and pray i guess.

I think that the things done by the japanese would have outraged America, and she would have indeed joined inif pearl harbour hadn't been attacted.

Apart from the fact that America gets involved in wars, she also does a hell of a lot to help people wordwide.

My grandparents, and parents always said if America hadn't helped us with supplies and cash, in addition to any military support we would not have survived.

OH Sorry iam in the uk, just wish i was in America, i'am pro America.

Maybe if i lived there i wouldn't be, but i think i would.

It's definitely true that the US tried it's best to keep the United Kingdom on it's feet while Nazi Germany did it's best to torpedo every cargo ship bound for Britain (Hitler was literally trying to bomb and starve Britain into submission). I personally believe the cargo ship crews that risked being sunk in the Atlantic to bring food to the Isles are some of the unsung heroes of WWII. Ironically two factors saved Churchill from having to surrender. One was the intervention of the US (both before Pearl and afterwards). The 2nd was Hitler sucked at playing the game Risk obviously. Remember that giant purple nation in the right most corner of the board that nobody can seem to conquer or hold for the entire game? Yeah...major defeat for the 3rd Reich there.

Yes, I have been on the Arizona Memorial. It was 1983. Now they have the Missouri moored right behind it. Signifies the beginning and end of the war in the pacific. The punch bowl cemetary on oahu is quite moving also.

My Great-Grandfather joined the Army in November, 1939 after England declared war on Germany. He reinlisted 3 times and stayed until 1945. One of my Great-Uncles was wounded twice and another didn,t make it back at all and is buried in Grosbeake, Netherlands.

^It is an eerie feeling standing on The Arizona Memorial. I Haven't been there since they have docked the USS Missouri there.^
