If you had a chance to talk to a younger version of yourself, What would you talk about?
If it were possible , I'd advise a younger Soda Bob to be wary of people who claimed to be his future self seeking to give him advice.
This thread reminds me of a discussion that I had 20 years ago with a colleague in the English department who taught (among other things) composition to first year students. It was her practice to give this as her first in-class essay assignment:
"Imagine that a time machine has been invented that will only transport very light objects into the past. You can use it to send one piece of paper to your younger self on your tenth birthday. Now write what to want to tell your younger self on one sheet of paper."
I asked her what sort of things they wrote. She told me that they usually wrote their philosophy of life. I pointed out that that was a huge waste of a wonderful opportunity. She didn't understand what I meant and asked what I would write. I sat down, wrote, and then gave her this:
"Beginning when you are 21, go to Belmont Race Track every year for the Belmont Stakes. Bet as follows:
1978 Affirmed
1977 Seattle Slew
1976 Bold Forbes
1975 Avatar
1974 Little Current
1973 Secretariat
1972 Riva Ridge
1971 Pass Catcher
"In 1978, a man named Bill Gates will found a company called Microsoft. Take all of your winnings from Belmont and all the money you can borrow and invest in Microsoft. Don't sell until 1994 at which time invest in Amazon, a company founded that year by a man named Jeff Bezos.
"You will be much richer than you ever imagined was possible.
"On a personal note, when you get to 8th grade, stay away from Martha W. She is a real bitch and she will betray you and break your heart."
