A Night in Jail for Money?

Just heard an amusing piece of news over the radio:

In Denmark, you can stay overnight in a jail cell. The Danish state gives up one of their prisons due to security deficiencies, and before it gets torn down, it'll be open for the public.

1 night including regular jail dinner and breakfast as well as a release certificate cost € 50 (= $ 50); the money goes to a welfare organization...

Now, would you spend money for going to jail? 😛

If I were in Denmark as a tourist now, $50 would be a lot cheaper than a hotel. 🙂

But I don't see why somebody who lives there would do it.

Interesting idea. But why would anyone pay to go to jail, when you can get drunk, break a few windows, and get a trip to jail for free?

my county government did the same thing with a new jail. before it was open to criminals... it was open to ‘paying customers’. the sad part is that it was worth the money. our jail is nicer than most motels.

you can do that at one of the old maximum security prisons near me. They take you on a ghost tour of the jail late at night, scare the shit out of you, then stick you on your own in a cell with a bucket and mattress until dawn. I can personally think of stuff I'd rather spend my money on... 😱

I would NOT pay to spend a night in jail...

HOWEVER... I would pay to get someone sent to jail for the night. That would rock!
