A possible "unnofficial" TX gathering
Hello - It looks like I will have a week off from work in August,
from Sunday Aug. 3 to Saturday Aug. 9. So I was thinking about maybe
having an "unofficial" gathering, with just a few people, over a few
days, instead of a one night thing with a large group. I could have
3 -4 people over to my apt. for a few days, kind of rotating out for
others, since my place is rather small (unless anyone wants to
volunteer their home, or we can split the 'gatherings' between my
place and someone else's).
I call this an "unofficial" gathering because A.) my place is too
small to hold a lot of people comfortably, and B). I'm thinking that
there are no hard and fast rules, no specific times or dates for
people to gather, and the emphasis will be on socializing, not actual
play. Of course, if play occurs, no problem there! But I was
thinking more like doing things together to be more comfortable with
one another: I live near movie theaters, parks, Dave & Busters,
restaurants with every type of food, and on Lower Greenville there's
clubs of every kind. We could go to a restaurant, maybe a movie or a
club, or watch videos/DVDs. I have a ton of board games, too, and
there's no reason we couldn't go to Ft. Worth, Plano, Arlington/GP or
some of the other nearby cities as well (I'm in Dallas). There's
lots to do in my area, and in the surrounding areas. Some people at
the last gathering didn't get to play and probably felt left out.
And I know others felt overwhelmed at the attention. This might be a
way to break in everyone more comfortably, and over a few days, not
just a lot of "action" in one evening. It will also allow out-of-
towners some flexibility to their travel plans, since they don't HAVE
to be at one place at one specific time and possibly miss out due to
their schedules. And it won't cost anyone anything, unlike renting a
space.
Now, there is a catch. I don't know for sure that I'm getting the
week off. Because of the nature of video production, I won't know
for sure that I have the time off until probably that week. But I
still want to try to get together. Even if we don't do it at my
apt., There's a nice Holiday Inn literally in the parking lot across
from my building, right next to Central Expressway (I-75), one of the
main roadways of Dallas for easy access. We could rent 2 or 3 suites
at this place over 2 or 3 days and gather there..... they have a
restaurant, bar, indoor pool and I think a hot tub - and it's right
next door to my place in case we wanted or needed anything. This will
also allow a little more intimate, "compartmentalized" play that The
Sanctuary didn't allow in its wide open space (and we still have my
apt. next door). Now this will cost $$$ of course, but I can see if
they offer a discount for renting several rooms over a few days.
That way, if I can't get off work until 6PM, but some of you want to
get together at 10AM for brunch, then swim, then "play", I don't have
to be there but you still have a place to hang around. This is just
a thought I'm throwing out.
Again, this is just an idea, nothing more. None of this is certain, or
set in stone. Something I'm throwing out there. This is more like an extended "munch" take a little further; Play isn't expected,
and there's no time limit to this (in by 9PM out by 2 AM, for
example...); it's just a way for us to hang around and be
comfortable with one another, but if our interest does come up, we're
in the right company of people. Just wanted to see your thoughts,
and if it looks good, should I start making plans? Again, target
dates are Aug. 3 - Aug 9. Feedback, please!
