What if there is nothing when we die? What if you just cease to exist? Then what?

We dont simple as that! i feel we dont just cease to exist when we Die. If we did then that means there would be NO God NO Jesus NO Bible NO Cross you would be able to do anything in this world you want'ed to. and you wouldn't have to reap the sin nature of it afterwards because you'd just cease to exist when you Died. Thats not in Gods plans he did Not just want to have us as humans just cease to exist when we Died. If also that was the case then Jesus and everything that applies to Christ and his word would be a complete and total lie

Just my two cents on the matter

and please dont Go oh here we go again with this religion Talk etc... i have every right to express my views on this Forum and if anybody else dosen't like it then im sorry

Well....then you would continue to cease to exist, right? Seems simple to me. 😎

I remember an interesting scene in the movie "Little Buddha": The Tibetan monk held a cup of tea when he explained the concept of reincarnation; then he dropped the cup and it shattered on the floor. "The cup is broken, but the tea still exists." I'm sure you get the idea.

Personally, I think that our existence in the material world ends when we die. We live on in other people's memories, and in the things we did during our life. I will still exist partially, in the genes of my children, for example. My actions affected others whose life may have changed because of me, either by feeling happy or miserable, depending on my actions. The atoms and molecules of my body will also continue to exist as a part of the Earth, or in some small animals like bacteria, or in a plant.

I existed as one small cog in the machinery of mental evolution, and that is enough for me.

p.s. ah bellybuttonking, you're finaly catching on(that jesus thing is a whole lie).

What happens when we die?

You lie rotting and stinking in the earth.

You're expecting something else, are you?

You're in fer a nasty surprise, but, hey, at least you won't be conscious for it.

Cheers.😀

Ah one of the BIG questions.

Well, it actually reduces rather well when you look at two variables

A: Do you believe in an afterlife or not?
B: Is there one or not?

In the case of B, where the answer is 'No' the problem reduces the same regardless of which side of A you are on. You are no longer exant and will be unaware of anything ever agian. It's not your problem to worry on anymore. Nice and neat.

Now If B is yes, then the only difference is a measure of surprise based on which side of A you were on (and how closely said afterlife confirms to ones expectations, it might be a rude shock) either you will be able to smugly say 'I knew it', or go "I'll be dipped there IS more!'.

Again, an issue to deal with when one gets some more data.

I'd say a more proper question is how which of the above you choose to believe plays a role in how you behave in your life now. It can be quite the juggling act to balance things mindfully based on ones choices.

As to worrying about it? In my opinion the best idea is to skip that dying thing. Seems horridly inconvienent.

Jesus is not a lie i never said Jesus was a lie!

"For those that believe, no explanation is necessary."

"For those who do not, no explanation is satisfactory."

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! 😀😀😀 Anyone wanna hear some stuff about religious conspiracies? 😀

*is brutally shot in the head by all the people he's pissed off on this topic before*

Seriously though, I'm no atheist. I believe in eternal life and I have my own conception of what/who "God" is. I do believe that religion is a man-invented fraud, but that doesn't make me believe that there is nothing to look forward to.

I think the main difference is, I don't look on the afterlife as a reward or goal. I look on it as the natural next step in an evolutionary process. Perhaps you could say, that once I'm dead I'll REALLY start to live.

As some folks wiser than I have said...

"Faith is believing in something that common sense says is impossible."

"If I believe and am wrong, then I lose nothing.
If I don't believe and am wrong, I lose everything."

While I won't take that second one literally, I do believe that my faith is a positive in my life and that (provided I don't go around shoving it down people's throats) it does no harm to others...and CAN do a lot of good if I live what I believe.

Do I personally believe that there is an afterlife? Absolutely. And I believe that I will spend it in worship of the same God I honor and serve in this life...only without all the distractions. It's one of those things that I know that I know that I know. I don't need explanation. I don't need proof. I just KNOW. Call me foolish if you like. I won't complain. I'll simply smile and continue to know.

St. Augustine, who himself didn't believe until his mid 30s said it. Many have used it since. It pretty much says it all.

Personally, I'd rather tie you up and blindfold you. Then, I'd inform you that the girl of your wildest dreams is about to be mercilessly tickled. Then, I'd slip on a set of those really good ear protectors so you can't hear a thing. Then, I'd let you just sit there and wonder! 😛

It's a good thing God is more merciful than I am!!! 😉

Doesn't seem to be much of a problem, then does it? If you cease to exist, I'm guessing there isn't much to worry about 😀

Death is only an illusion. In reality it is the beginning of a new journey.😀

The idea of there not being an afterlife doesn't really bother me.
I'm more worried that after I die, I'm going to find myself in a place that is like a page out of Dante's Inferno.

However, I like the idea that we are put on this world so that we can learn and grow. Then, when we die, if we still have more to learn, we are returned to this world to pick up where we left off.
Otherwise, we graduate to the next level of existence and continue learning.

If you simply cease to exist, it won't have any effect on you. Unless you meant, "What if it was discovered that you simply cease to exist and you had to face that fact while still alive?", in which case alot of people would probably become very upset and/or depressed. As for my beliefs, I will not commit anything to belief that I have no solid evidence of. Do I believe that there is an afterlife? No. Do I believe that there isn't one? No.
