i often see members when quoting from a previous post, able to copy only the part of the quote they wish to comment on. i always have to just quote the entire post. is there a way for me to copy only the part of the post i wish to quote? and remember i have a very hard time copying and pasting entire pages. or paragraphs. i seem to be able only to copy and paste one line only. thanks

Are you using the "Quote" button (it's located in the lower right-hand corner of the post you're quoting) to quote other members' posts? If so, then all you have to do is delete all the text you don't wish to quote. For example, in quoting you here, I simply clicked on that button in your post, and eliminated all the words that came before and after the sentence above. Or you can simply type out the quote (which you must do if you're quoting someone more than once), like I have below (I added a space between the / and QUOTE so you'd be able to view it):

Or you can press the left mouse button, and drag the cursor across the lines you want. When you get to where you want to stop release the left button. Right-click inside the shaded (or highlighted) text, and a menu should pop up. Select copy. Select the quote option, and then right click in the space provided. This should give you the menu again, this time with the option to paste. Select Paste, and click OK.

grrrr no it didnt thanks anyway...

Here is your last post quoted completely, or what it looks like in the reply box, anyway:
PHP:
This should give you the menu again, this time with the option to paste.

Here is that post quoted but with some lines of text removed:
PHP:

The key is to keep the quote brackets:
PHP:

When you've been quoting, you've been deleting one or both of those. To only quote part of a message, delete things ONLY FROM INSIDE THE BRACKETS, NOT THE BRACKETS THEMSELVES. Deleting the brackets causes the quote to break. Does that help? I can give you a step-by-step visual guide if you want.

knowing me, i think a step by step is in order, HisDivineShadow, if its not too much trouble. thanks again

Alrighty then. I'll quote the chrisman there for this demo.

First, we go to the post we want to quote, in this case chris':

Next, we hit the Quote button, obviously:

Then, we examine the quoted text before it has been touched:

We want to only quote chris' "Ha ha," so everything else has to go. To do that, take your mouse, hold down the left-click button, and drag it over the text you do not want being careful to not do anything to either of the quote brackets. Alternatively, you can clickj at the end of the text you don't want and hit "Backspace" until all of it is gone.:

Finally, we hit the "Delete" or "Backspace" keys to delete our highlighted text (Unless you backspaced like I mentioned in the last step already), and then you can hit submit. Voila!

After hitting the wuote button and being taken to the replu page, you must not delete the QUOTE brackets, which is what I believe you just did.

hmmm i never saw any brackets i think... o well thanks anyway HisDivineShadow i am a hopeless case...

You didn't, eh? Are you sure you hit the "Quote" button? IF you did, you'd see the text of the post you quoted surrounded by these tags:
PHP:
The_text_of_the_post_you_quoted_will_be_here
For instance, quoting your last post shows:
PHP:
hmmm i never saw any brackets i think... o well thanks anyway HisDivineShadow i am a hopeless case...

isabeau
