A Reflection Of Things

Here I am, a soon to be Marine. One day Ill find myself in a war, fighting for ideals some of which I share and some not my own. I ask myself could I do it? Could I pull the trigger? Could I kill someone? Someones father, someones brother, someones son. Soldiers are a breed called upon to kill their own kind. Brothers in arms, brothers in death. So many things things to think about...

Not an easy question to answer my brother....I fear that there is no answer until the time is actually upon you....Not much consolation,
but it might not be as difficult when others are trying to do the same to you and those you bond with..It takes a special person to know what to do and how when the time comes....best of luck and know that your friends here will always be with you in your heart....I will pray that there will be no war in which you have to find out....

Ice, no one who's moral likes war or killing. But sometimes self-defense is the only way to stay alive. When you joined the military, you did it knowing that you were willing to die for your country, as does any recruit. It won't be easy, but I think if you're doing battle and want to survive, you WILL be able to pull the trigger, not because you want to, but because you HAVE to. Just remember that you're fighting for freedom and your buddies in the Marines are there for you. 🙂

Respect t'ya, kid. Always wished the Navy would take me. Childhood asthma, which is now almost completely absent, ain't allowed.

I figure, like other posters, that you'll do what's needed to keep your own protected. Havin' a corp as your responsibility makes such decisions for a man.

I dred the day I have to make such a decision, and with the area I am going to be working in, the possibility is likely. Your original questions

Those are very good questions, SI, & while it is natural for you to ask those questions it is impossible for you to answer them now. As a veteran, I can tell you that I hope you never have to find out the answers to them, but I have full faith in your ability to do what you must to defend yourself, your comrades in arms & your country. I'm proud to be the son of a Marine, and to have served in the Army. Until you've served your time, I hope you're safe.
