on this date in 1977, a small twin engine plane ran out of gas and crashed in Mississippi...killing three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd and injuring the rest of the band...among the killed was the lead singer, Ron Van Zandt, found sitting upright against a tree without a scratch..here is their most famous song..

he used to be buried in the same cemetary as my father, but vandals became a problem and they had to move his resting place.

the hollywood brother loves there music. if you think of southern comfort, southern rock or anything southern you think of this great band that has been rocking for many decades. it was a great rock and roll tradegy the day of the crash but the band found a way to keep going and the bottom hollywood brother line is that the music will live for ever

yeah, they were a local legend, from Jacksonville here. they even named their band after the gym teacher in our local Ed White High School. they had some great music for sure.

the teacher's name was Lynryd Skynyrd? cool....

VH1 will probably have another of those background thing repeaties that they have done before..it was very interesting..this band could play live..and Ron sang in tune..so many bands today they suck live, and the lead singer ends up singing flat...

no, his name was Leonard Skynyrd. and all the students spelled it Lynryd Skynyrd.

my aunt had him for gym for 2 years.

I loved the original Skynyrd line up the most. They were one of my favorite bands when I was growing up. That was a very sad day indeed.
An bit of trivia for ya izzy. When the album "Street Survivors" was originally released it featured the band in the foreground with fire and flames behind them. The three members of the band who perished in the horrible crash all had flames just over their heads in the album cover photo. It is quite eerie actually.
After their deaths MCA changed the cover photo and released a second cover with a black background behind the band out of respect for the deceased. I have one of the original vinyl lp's with the original cover art in my collection. It is one of my most prized albums.
The first album cover has more recently been reinstated as the official cover art for the album.
I cried like a baby when this happened and will forever be indebted to Ronnie and the boys for making some of the sweetest music south of the Mason Dixon. A great band indeed tickle angel, you got that right, you sure got that right.
