Okay so... I was thinking a lot today, remembering things, and one of the things I remembered was the whole Sept.11 thing. The fact is that it took ages for that to sink in for me, just didn't believe it at first, but I was remembering a thing on the news ages ago. It was a recording from a police helicopter that just happened to be flying around the Twin Towers at the time, to the extent that one of the planes narrowly missed it. Once the first building had collapsed, the chopper flew over the other one, looking down. It was the most harrowing thing I've ever seen of that event: literally hundreds of people standing on the roof of the building, waving at the chopper to help them. But of course there was nothing they could do. As the building collapsed, the chopper was directly above, and the film clearly shows the people dissapear in a huge waft of smoke. The chopper spins out and nearly crashes as it gets caught in the smoke, but miraculously survives and just looks at the damage. Both pilots, who were screaming in fear before, are now totally silent, presumably too numb to speak. I was too after seing that.
So I had that horrible little flashback, and wrote this song to get it out. Sorry if it upsets people, but it isn't intended to sound anti-American.

"One Day In September"
One day in September
The blazing Sun must have cried
Watching thousands of people
Panicking, stuck inside
Explosion tearing through
Unleashing anarchy
Buildings give way and fall down
For the whole world to see
CHORUS:
They’re dead because you said so
They’re dead because you said so
They’re dead because you said so
You gave the order and now
They’re dead because you said so
They’re dead because you said so
Buried in rubble
And now it’s all your fault
So fuck you
Striking back and bombing
The poorest country in the world
And so another chapter
Of conflict now unfolds
Another generation
Hating the “Land of the Free”
And so the cycle goes on
Waiting for our misery
CHORUS
What gives any of you the right
To choose who lives and who dies?
History teaches us nothing
Maybe it’s time we woke up
The problem is they think they’re right
They feel they’re fighting the good fight
So what’s the fucking difference
Between them and us?
