Australians say 'Lest We Forget' to remember the fallen in wars.

Lest we forget the Americans.

Re: A Truly Magnificent Sight

Nice touch, Venray!

I could not agree more about the splendor of that photo. It is more than just a momento, for Me, as I adore many of the U.S. larger cities' skylines at nightfall. The Dallas,TX skyline was always My favorite, followed by Frankfort,KY/Cincinnati, Ohio...but after viewing this pic? Manhattan has reclaimed much of its splendor for me.

Thanks for an awe-inspiring visual reminder of the patriotism, chartity, courage, and heroism which helped diminish the otherwise adverse impact of the events of 9/11/01!

Please give our best to Venraya and the little one from jen and I!

Mea culpa, Alex, mea culpa maxima!

Thanks for the proofread, Alex! I have duly corrected My erroneous year reference in the event date. I am usually better than that. I guess I am more tired than I thought tonight.

Another Memorial To 9/11

Saw a photo taken at NYC's St. Patrick's Day parade in my Sunday paper. FDNY had a contingent of 343 flag bearers in dress blues marching in the parade, one for each FDNY member killed on 9/11. It's probably out there on the Net somewhere. Venray, if it turns up, please post it.

Too many...

There's just too many photos and stories floating around...some days when I'm in the city it seems like only a week or two has passed, and the wound is still fresh and bleeding. The damn dust still swirls in that empty space...the monuments and such are nice, built with good intentions and imbued with meaning, but it's all hollow without the justice all our people deserve being administered to the cretins who plan and carry out these atrocities throughout the world. Amazing how powerful the emotions that are evoked by these things still are...I'm beginning to understand my fathers frame of reference when he speaks of Pearl Harbor with that same venom in his voice after all these decades.... 343 Flags

And the photo of the FDNY flag bearers would probably scare some of our European members to death. Those guys aren't just a memorial. They're the glove over the iron fist that will crush our enemies.

That trait must have sucked in the Year One. "Yeah, I'm still writing Zero on my checks...."😀

Great Pic, guys...truly awe-inspiring.

I love that picture. I was hoping I'd see it in photographic form. I was watching it on tv when they lit up the "Towers" and thought that was a lovely tribute.

OK, just a few random ramblings....

When I went to NY a few weeks ago, I took a lil ride on the SI ferry. My friend, Sarah, swore to me it was the best way to see the Statue of Liberty lit up at night. It was NOT a disappointment. I stood out there in 20 degree temps with the wind freezing my eyelids open to stare in awe at the Lady.

I'm such a weepy girl sometimes. ANYWAY, whilst I stood there captivated, my eyes drifted to the shorline. Sure, we've all seen pictures of that view, but to see it in person...WOW. But my virgin glance at it was without the Twin Towers. Everyone else out there was staring at the Mona Lisa without her smile....I just saw it all. That was my first impression of the NYC skyline....I've no comparison. I felt angry at that, but blessed at the same time that it took my breath away still. My first glance of the skyline was still that of the most awe inspiring place I'd ever seen. There was this light above the city. I'm sure those who live there and have visited know what I'm talking about. The lights of Manahttan cause a halo effect. To see that shimmer of light reflecting in a halo over the tip of the island where the towers once stood...well, THAT choked me up. I don't think my friend, the NYC native, even noticed it. I guess it's good to use fresh eyes once in a while.

OK, enough for now. Just had to babble a bit.

::Retreating back to bunker::

One of the FEW times in forum history that EVERYONE is going to hope you/we are WRONG about potential "precognitive skills" or a premonition (heaven forbid!), Alex!😱

*GuitarPeteTklr knocks at the entrance to the Alex's bunker and asks if he is giving safe haven to any particularly responsive female ticklees that might otherwise be attending a gathering*😀

and to think, the NYC Skyline USED to be the view from where I used to live just over a year ago. Only a memory now.
