The next day. Ross dialed his father's number just before Ross was set to take a shower and head into the office.
Mercifully, Ross's migraine hurt a bit that day, but not much.
Ross's father answered the phone, said he could not talk, and then called Ross back, and Ross's father said he was in excruciating pain and the father and son would talk later that day.
Ross had a very.. dark feeling over him, even though Ross knew that Ross's father was in his 80s, and had many surgeries, and pain could happen as Ross's father was recovering from operations, which Ross's father had less than a month earlier.
Kayley came out of the bathroom after putting her makeup on, and noticed the look on Ross's face. "What's the matter, babe?" Kayley asked.
"It's my Dad. I know that he's in his 80s but he sounds terrible., and said he's in a lot of pain" Ross said.
Kayley went over to comfort Ross "Ross, your relationship with your father has improved so much over the past year from where it used to be. Your constant pain with your migraines has him besides himself, and his pain from his surgery has you beside yourself. It's called loving someone. " Kayley said.
"I almost dont feel like going into the office , but I know that if I sit here all day and just wait for the phone to ring, it will depress me more. Lett me take advantage of feeling a bit better today, and go in and deal with some stuff. If he needs me to go to him, I will run out and go to him" Ross said.
"Thats a good idea. Both of you take care of yourselves. If you need me , just call" Kayley said.
Ross went into the shower, threw on jeans and a polo shirt, and rode in an Uber to the office. He went upstairs, and entered the office, there were already people there.
"Improperly dressed President arriving late for work. Anyone who does not like it, I dont care. Going into my office to try and do some productive things" Ross said.
Victor cautiously approached Ross. "Ross, you look terrible. Are you feeling okay?" Victor asked.
"Good Morning, Vic. I'm okay. My head only hurts a little today. It's my father. I dialed his number before I came in, and he is in terrible pain. It sounds worse than ever" " Ross said.
"Ross, I'm so sorry. I pray for him and for you, and hope he feels better. I personally think its good you came in. We both know you always bust your ass. Maybe you just need a day to ease up and just read light proposals and not kill yourself. Take advantage of that today. If your Dad needs you at any time, get out of here, and go to him. This is your company. No one is going to throw you out of here, if you need to leave for a health reason with your Dad" Vic said.
"Thanks, Vic. You are a gem. Luckily, all of the important things are done for the month. I will just sit here until whatever time, you can join me for lunch, and then I will probably leave early" Ross sad
"Take care of yourself, Ross. Hopefully your Dad will get better" Vic said.
"Thanks, Vic" Ross said.
Ross did his paperwork, but his mind was on his father constantly. Ross did not want to keep calling his father, because he knew that his father was a man who wanted to be left alone when he was in pain. Ross figured that he would wait until that evening, and if Ross did not hear from his father by the time that reached Ross's usual time to come home from work, Ross would definitely call then.
As "Pumped" as Ross had felt that his doctor's appointment was coming up, and about his hopefully planned trip to Oklahoma, Ross was so upset that day, that he just wanted to take a "Wait and See" attitude.,
It was like Ross's mind was all over the place that day. He went from wanting to recruit a ton of new clients and accounts for RossShell, which he knew would not be a good idea for his health or his relationship with Kayley, to wanting to research and discuss with Fritz another new group of investors, even though the planned trip to Oklahoma trip had not even happened yet Sometimes when Ross was very upset about something his mind tended to race.
At almost noon, Ross stood outside his office, sighed, and said. "What the Hell am I doing here?!"
Vic cautiously approached Ross. "Ross, can I help you in any way?"
Ross smiled. "Yes, Vic. Forget about whatever you were doing for a couple of hours, and please let me take you to lunch. If something shows up a day late, I will take responsibility. Everyone we work for knows I've not been feeling well. I want to battle through this pain, and I refuse to give in and fold up this company after how hard we all worked to build it back after what Borgier did that. No matter how much money I got for selling it, and how much severance I gave anyone, I know that I and everyone else would regret that later" Ross said.
Ross and Vic walked over to Shun Lee Palace, They ordered two dishes to split and iced teas.
When the teas came, Victor raised his glass.
"Here is to Ross and his father and their improving health very soon"
"Thanks, Vic, that means a lot to me" Ross said.
The men ate lunch, and walked back to the office.
"I am going to stay until Kayley would be home, and then may just leave early. Going home and sitting in the apartment alone worrying will only be detrimental to me. At least here I get some things done, and I am around people who are helping me, and who care, like you,. Between my Dads operations, and my migraines, Kayley and me, and the day to day work of running an ever expanding company, I feel like I dont know sometimes if I cam coming or going" Ross said.
"That's a good idea. Just do whatever. No one is looking over your shoulder. The way you always bust your ass at this office, you dont have to justify yourself. Normally, you work so hard, that you push yourself too hard. Having a light day for health reasons is not a crime" Vic said.
.
Ross sat there, piddling paperwork, deep in thought. Ross knew he should leave and go home, but he could not push himself to get up and leave the office.
Luckily for Ross, it was a quiet day, and with the monthly campaigns over, no one important seemed to want him.
Ross looked over a potential list of new investors for his business deals, and of potential new clients, but he knew that with all the additional work that would involve, that was "Pie In The Sky" so to speak, with all the serious health issues that Ross and his father were having.
The hours passed. Ross was trying to do research and paperwork, and he just could not bring himself to.
Finally, at 330, Ross was like. "Fuck this. I cannot focus. I have to get out of here. I will come back tomorrow, and maybe my Dad and me will stabilize , and I will be able to do more things"
Ross strode out of the office. "Goodbye everyone, have a good evening. I'm punching out early. I need to go somewhere that does not have anything to do with work" Ross said.
"Take care of yourself, Ross, and prayers to you and your Dad. Hopefully tomorrow things will get better" Vic said.
"Thanks, Vic,. have a good night, my friend"
Ross rode home from the office. Luckily the traffic was not as bad as usual, and he arrived home at 415.
Ross went upstairs, and entered.
"Foot Felon and Masher home, beware" Ross said jokingly.
Kayley went over to embrace Ross. "You know that if you want my feet, you can get at them anytime. You look at your wits end" Kayley said.
"Oh, I am. I did almost nothing today, but I just wanted to get the hell out of here and not sit home all day. No word from my Dad. When he does not feel well he likes to be left alone. If I dont hear from him y later tonight, you can be sure I will be calling. My headaches are just a bit sore, but nothing as bad as they usually are, and I need to be here for you" Ross said, kissing Kayley.
"I need to be here for you" Kayley said, kissing Ross back.
Ross sat there, massaging Kayley's back, and Kayley massaged Ross's back.
It seemed to be a very dark time with Ross's health, and Ross's father 's health.
All this proved that no matter how much money someone has or had, health and physical and emotonal well being some first before anything.
What would happen next? Would things begin to work out?
That would be seen.
