I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We had a hurricane like late Sunday, early Monday. Power went out at 12:30am on Monday morning. This is the tale of the dreaded demon we call "no-power."

Day 1: Monday

Today, I lost power. A bunch of tree's went down in the hurricane, one right down on my neighbor's house, which I later learned that it, along with a pole at the end of the street, stopped us from getting power 'till they were fixed. Anyway, a lot of tree's were uprooted at shit too... you know, the ground came up and you could see the roots and stuff. Anyway, went to my friends and played cards for an hour and a half... then his dad woke up and scared the hell outta me! I mean goddamn! I'd describe him, but i've suppressed that memory! Anyway, needless to say, I helped them cut down a tree a little bit and then went home. I didn't do much else besides sit around outside on the veranda *hopes thats a word* after that.

Day 2: Tuesday

Today, I woke up. I sat on the veranda for most of the day, but then I went back to my friends house, and he had the rest of that tree gone, so I was like, "wow," and proceeded to pick up a stick and hit a bunch of branches for a while. Then he said to go with him, and we went somewhere and go some salmon from someone for his mom. His mom was having a barbecue to cook all of the meat she had before it went bad. Anyway, afterwards, I told him I was going someplace far away, to visit my other friend and see if he had power (did I mention we had no phone either? I would've called him if we did). We walked up there and then I drank a lot of water, then we walked down a street with the newly picked up other friend, but the first friend left to go home. Anyway, we went down a street and we stopped at a place, and we sat on a bench and looked out at the harbor. After an hour of looking and talking and stuff, we left and went to a Superstore nearby, and he picked up some groceries (chocolate bars and chips and pop) and went home. Then I walked home... when I got home, I = pain. Then I fell asleep, woke up, sat on veranda for awhile and then went to bed.

Day 3: Wednesday

Today, I walked around a lot. We got a camp stove to use to cook food (we were cooking stuff over candles before), you know, you pump gas into it, and fire it up with a match or something, then you cook. Anyway, we cooked stuff, between my walking around and sitting. That's about it.

Day 4: Thursday

Mostly sat around and did nothing. Walked around some more.

Day 5: Friday

I went to the mall at night. Another friend came up out of nowhere while I was there... and he had power since MONDAY!! I could've stabbed him in the face! But I didn't. Went home, and roasted some marshmallow's on the candle fire. Then I went to bed.

Day 6: Saturday

Sat around a lot today. Went to the Mall again, to Electronics Boutique and stuff. Then went home and helped clean up some tree stuffz, then I sat around some more, and played "Golden Sun: The Lost Age" for Game Boy Advance, and then I went to bed.

Day 7: Sunday

I sat around all day, while playing Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Then sleep.

Day 8: Monday

I was supposed to go to school today, but I had no power so I said "screw it" and slept in. Got power back about 11am, but couldn't get internet working. At about 8pm, I got the idea to actually call some people to try to get it working. Got it working by about 9:30pm. Now I am back, and I am all aflutter.I am soon gonna go to bed. Bye!

-- Ok... so it was a little more than a week! my bad!! --

Hurricanes

We've been exceptionally blessed down here on the Florida, U.S.A. Panhandle for the past several years. Apart from a direct hit, and the flooding/property damage/etc., the electricity loss after a hurricane is the part I don't care for. The storms themselves are intense and exciting, but lossing power has a way of tossing the whole flimsy veneer of civilized living right out the window with a quickness. The old neighborhood I live in typically losses power for a week or more when the "Big Winds" come through.
From a "Murphy's Law" perspective, I don't see us getting a hurricane this year...because I'm as prepared as I've ever been, supply-wise, unlike previous years' storms🙄
Still, it's typically been October when we've seen the worst of the hurricanes in this area, so we're far from secure just yet.

Re: Nova Scotia

Sounds like life out east is fun!! 😛

Seriously, though, Scotia is great.

Cheers.😀
