I want to hook up a few of my computers to a Wireless printer and currently very few of my computers have a wireless capability. Can I just get one of those USB Wifi adapters and use that to connect to a wireless printer? Is it that easy? Something tell me with PCs its not that easy LOL 😛

What type of wireless are we talking about? Is this printer one that connects to an existing wireless network? Or, is it a printer that uses "Wireless USB?" The two are very different.

you can generally link to a wireless printer with any type of wireless card, or just get a wireless router.

See I dont know what kinds of Wireless there are and I have not yet bought the printer yet. I dont have any wireless router and I dont hook to the net using wireless. I am still using dial-up. I would like the computer and the printer to talk wirelessly if possible. No net connection. Just the comp and printer communicating. 😀

Ok. Does that need a internet connection? I just use dialup.

Thanks for you help everyone. :bounce: 😀

You don't have to change your internet connection to use wireless. If you have the printer model, I can look it up and tell you what it has. I'm going to guess is uses the wireless technology commonly called Wi-Fi. If so, you need a wireless router, to start. Then, each computer you want to connect to the wireless network requires a wireless card, network adapter, or USB receiver. If you choose, you can also directly connect computers to the wireless router using Ethernet cables, although this does remove the mobility advantage.

The basic structure is as follows. Your wireless router is the central point. Your printer will connect to it and be accessible through it. Other computers connect to the router and then can talk to the printer.

That makes sense. I iz understanding now. 🙂

I was thinking of a Canon MX990.

Thanks again for your time. :yourock:

I can barely find anything on this printer, but it does look like it is "Wi-Fi" wireless, not wireless USB. So yes, you do need a wireless router and then wireless receivers for each computer that will be using it.
