Hi everybody.
Please, don't use Rapidshare to post large clip. Is toooooo slow, and I receive messages very disappointing:
Case 1:
"Your IP-address XX.XX.XXX is already downloading a file. You have to wait until it is finished" (I can´t download 2 or more files simultaneously)
Case 2:
"You have downloaded XXX KB. Want to download more?
Get your PREMIUM-Account now! Instant access! (Or wait 55 minutes)" (always the same thing: wait!!, wait!!, and wait!!)
This server make me sick!!!
TT provides us the best tools for sharing. So, split your clips with HJSplit, Hacha, WinRAR or whatever you want and post right here in this forum. I will appreciate it.

Regards.

Anyone try yousendit.com?
The rapidshare problem hit people with shared IPs (like AOL users) but I'm not sure if yousendit has the same problem.

Yousendit

Yousendit has the next advantages:

No waiting.
Parallel downloads possible.
Files up to 1 GB possible.

Yousendit has the next big disadvantages:

Only a limited number of downloads per file.
Link expires after one week.
Often loss of contact with the server. Not a big problem when using IE, because download will pick up where it is lost, but a problem for users of Mozilla Firefox, because downloading must start all over again.
After loss of contact while uploading you must start uploading all over again.

Advantages of Rapidshare:

Never problems uploading or downloading.
File stays on the server as long as it is downloaded at least once every 30 days.
No limit to the number of times that the file is downloaded.

Disadvantages of Rapidshare:

Some people cannot use it.
Downloading only 30 Mb per 80 minutes.
No parallel downloads possible.
Files only up to 100 Mb possible.

But at least both services are free.

I'm one of the ones who, sadly, can't use Rapidshare. I've got AOL, so I have the "Shared IP" problem too. I actually don't mind if a clip is split into different pieces, even if each piece is only like 30 seconds long. I've actually seen some really good clips that do that, and it's pretty easy to save them and put them together. As long as all the parts are posted on here, I've got no problem with it 🙂

Stray idea: set an anonymous proxy up.
Reports a different IP to Rapidshare, and overcomes shared IP problems.

...

I know it's frustrating when everybody but you can grab the loot, but it wouldn't be nice to put a strain on contributors: encoding files, splitting them, uploading to a public host, all take time and effort.

Try with proxies before giving up on Rapidshare.

Ok. At the risk of sounding like a technological dumbass, how do I do that?

I'm on AOL, but I have no problems using Rapidshare - simply access Rapidshare through an IE window and it's alright; if you use the AOL browser then THAT is when the proxy IP screws you...

How about these two:
Savefile.com: Unlimited simultaneous uploads and downloads, no expiry on uploaded files, up to 60MB.
Megaupload.com: Unlimited simultaneous uploads/downloads, no expiry if downloaded at least once per month, up to 250MB. Major downside - downloads capped to dialup speeds.
Rapidupload.com: Same as Megaupload without the download speed cap, up to 300MB files.

Or for really MASSIVE files, why not torrent it? :-/

Well, first of all, don't use anything that messes with proxies.
I'm not familiar with AOL browsers, but if they do tamper with proxy config, refrain from using them.

Second, get an extension-compliant browser, such as Firefox or Mozilla.
Third, download a proxy managing extension such as Switch Proxy Tool.
Third, get hold onto a list of public anonymous proxies. Miss Val can provide one, but you can google some up on your own.
Fourth, enter the list in the Proxy Tool, and set it up. How? I think there are FAQs around. 😉
Fifth, juggle proxies until you find something fast and new to Rapidshare.
Sixth, if all fails, ask somebody to download the clip for you, but refrain from pestering the original poster: contributors are known to be a moody lot. 😉

...

Oh, and Speedyshare.com seems interesting too.

The internet is a far different place than it was in 2000 when I got my first pc. Most people did their own sites, many were willing to share, most software was free. It was also an experimental time when having a pc was a novelty. Now that everyone has a pc or laptop, there is no reason to share and everyone is in it for a profit. Probably because web designers are not free and web space is not free. The companies lure you in with freebies but you soon learn that you must upgrade to avoid long waits, ads and other inconveniences. Think of the internet as a huge shopping mall.
