Actor Hugh O'Brian dies at 91.

Oh fuck Hugh.

Just kidding, lol. (always looking for a chance to use that, there's not many Hughs anymore!).

It's funny, Hugh O'Brien is one of those names I know, but when I looked at his Filmography, I realized I only have seen him in Rocketship XM (early 50s sci-fi). He had a nice long life, that's for sure.....he lived the Hollywood dream! I actually never have seen him as Wyatt Earp, didn't even know of the series! I always think Henry Fonda when I think of Earp! Obviously, I need some schooling!

The article mentions something very interesting that I heard Hackman, Hoffman or Duvall talk about (can't remember which, but one of them): he said that when he was taking acting classes out in Hollywood in the early 60s, all the other male students would be practicing their quick draw all the time, and twirling the guns; that's what was in demand in Hollywood at that time, what with all the westerns they churned out, both on TV and the big screen. I can understand why. When you see Lee Van Cleef (for instance) quick draw (or Hugh O'Brian for that matter!)....he's really doing it, it's not a special effect, its not CGI, you literally go: wow, that guy's quick!

I keep getting pop ads, I couldn't see where he died. Was he at the Motion Picture Home for Retired Actors? Or did he have his own spread?

Hugh died at his Beverly Hills home with his wife nearby. Sorry about the popups, I'm not getting those.

Did you know Wyatt Earp lived until 1929? William S. Hart and Tom Mix were pallbearers at his funeral. Earp also served as a consultant on some of the early silent Westerns.

I did know that about Earp! John Ford also was a friend and based "My Darling Clementine" on conversations they had had. "The names Earp. Wyatt Earp!" If you went up to Pickfair for dinner, you were liable to find yourself sitting next to Wyatt Earp on one side, Amelia Earhart on the other, and the Queen of Sheba across from you! (by the way, where's Sheba?)

How do you rate O'Brian among the other Wyatt Earps? I forget who plays him in Gunfight At The Ok Corrall, but didn't Kurt Russell play him in "Tombstone"? For me Henry Fonda is the man. Your thoughts please, sir.

Rest In Peace, Mr. O'Brian.

Burt Lancaster. Gunfight at the OK Corral, back in 1957, made a huge impression on me, then 7 years old.

To rate O'Brian as Earp I'd have to watch some episodes on Youtube, been decades since I've seen the show. Have to agree with you about Fonda. My Darling Clementine is in my top ten of the greatest Westerns ever made.
