Actual tickling machines

There are all sorts of stories about robotic hands or mechanical tickling boots in the TT story section, but is there such thing as an actual tickling machine? Has anyone ever built or seen one?

Well, no. It would cost money and time which anyone would spend in a machine for... tickling ._. Mechanicals hands for tickling is imposible, the movement has too soft to a machine, and the only thing that i think i saw and anyone can make, is a 3V motor (the one wich is in some toys) with some feathers. I don't think that another "tickling machine" would be possible. Anyway, i think like someother said before in this forum, the funny part of tickling is the play between the tickler and the ticklee, so, why would anyone want to use something like a tickling machine? :stickout

I think the best you're going to get is a wheel of feathers or brushes attached to a motor. I do know of someone who once made one out of K'Nex, and he said it worked pretty well (and it really made me wish I still had all of mine...). But yeah, as Blackfeather said, mechanical hands simply aren't capable of that kind of fluid motion, at least not yet. And no one with the time and money to improve that kind of technology is going to spend it on a tickle machine, I'm afraid... XD

I wouldn't suggest using anything with feathers or brushes, since using those requires the right amount of pressure and being able to make nuanced adjustments to really tickle someone with. I would suggest using something that tickles through vibration, like the little pin that connects to toothbrush heads or blades on electric brushes and beard trimmers. Those tickle like madness, and they don't require that level of personal touch to get the job done, either. A machine that can move it in to touch the skin, maybe move it around some... that would probably leave the victim squirming for quite a while.

I agree. Some kind of vibration would be easier to implement and more effective. When my cell phone is clipped to my belt and vibrates, it tickles a little. A while ago, I tried to make a machine by putting a small, egg shaped vibrator inside some stretchy cloth around my waist. It didn't work. I am considering buying some cell phone vibration motors, or some "piezo bender" buzzers so I could better control the frequency. It might be easier and safer to have many vibrators instead of moving one. I will have to look at the kind of motion in toothbrush heads. I don't know if it is the vibration frequency or reciprocating motion that is key. (Yeah, I'm pretty techno geeky.)

Yes, the play between people is part of the fun. I always imagine a person controlling the machine, like maybe an internet connected, first person shooter video game with real time video between players. If you land a hit, it tickles the other player and you see them laugh - tele-tickling for those too far apart.
