Age Of Your Co Workers?

General question, but also an observation about myself, and the place I work.

For those of us who work in offices, companies, stores, etc.. with either large or small amounts of co workers.. What is the general age range of those people who you work with?

For myself: I'm almost embarrassed to admit this,., but,, while I don't exactly know everyone's age at the office I work in.. I believe that I'm the second oldest person in that office. My supervisor, Keith, is 60. Trevor, another major supervisor who just got transferred from my office, to another office in the company, , is exactly the same age as I am, and has a very high position in the company. The guy that initially brought me into the company, Jay, is only 33, and is the CFO of our office.

Most people who know me,. say that I don't look my age. The only evidence of age that I show.. is my middle age pot belly, that I'm trying to work off at the gym.

Not to digress, but ..what is the general age of your co workers?

There is no mandatory retirement age where I work. So my co-workers range in age from 18 (many work-study students) to one woman who still comes in to her lab at least five days per week at age 86.

My team is spread out all over the country. California, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, etc. However the office in which I maintain a cube is full of mostly men and women in their 30s. Being in my mid 50s, I'm older than most, but there's one old gal there who might exceed my age.

No shame in that, good buddy. A lot of older people get late starts in life when it comes to their first real career, so no need to feel "embarrassed." Where did the "embarrassment" or observation about age come from? Was it on your own or a discussion throughout the office? If it's the former, like they say, you're only as old as you feel, and it sounds like you have a lot of good years left in you. Good on you for keeping with the gym workout as well! Sounds like you're staying motivated, which is good to hear.

Right now I'm still studying, so people around me are in a similar age group I am: that means from 23 up to 30.
I'm going to be teaching at high school next year however, which means I'll probably get to see lot of variety in my colleague's ages.

mils, that's very cool about the woman who works in your office at 86. My grandfather, a CPA, worked until the night he got a major stroke, two months short of his 78th bday, and had been working since age 12. My dad still works at almost age 74.

Jericho, there was no "Discussion", it didn't come up. I merely said it feels a bit weird to be one of the oldest people in my office is all.

TTT, teachers are very varied ages, especially since most schools have tenure. When I was in school, I had teachers that ranged in age from one hot female in her mid to late 20s, all the way up to an English teacher who was well in her 60s, and I think we had teachers even older then that English teacher.

I have two veterinarians who work for me on occasion as relief vets. They are both in their 60s. Myself and the other associate vet are in our 40s. Otherwise, 1/3 of my employees are over 50, 1/3 are in their 30s, and the other 1/3 are college age late teen/early twenty somethings. The generational gap can be a bit overwhelming at times - and humorous as I had to explain to one vet tech who Lucy and Ethel were... (he referred to her as Eeethel - rhyming with lethal).

The age of my co-workers? 85% of them have never even SEEN the first three Star Wars movies. That's just too fucking YOUNG!
