This Aimster is making me nuts. I cannot figure out how to work it. I have read the FAQ and the tutorials to no avail. I am usually prety good at figuring out how to use new programs, but this has me totally stumped. HELP ME PLEASE😡 🙁

Jen

Which problem?

I would love to Jen! Whats not "working" on Aimster, specifically? Can you set up a Search, open your buddy list, configure the settings? Try to remember that at times their servers are going to be overloaded and certain functions will be sporadic at best. Work on it during off peak hours for best results. You need to know if you have a firewall, also. And may all the Gods and dvnc help ya if you're working on a Mac rig! Q

I can open my buddy list, but can't add buddies. I do a search and download the file, but it won't play. I know that there is no firewall. It is all very confusing. I am on an IBM compatible. 56K Modem.

Thanks for your help.
Jen

Adding a buddy

To add a buddy, highlight the "Buddy" text and hit the + key...it should give you a new box labeled "New Buddy", which you then backspace out and type in the name of your desired buddy, at which time it should be moved to the "Offline" section if they're not on.

As for DLing and not playing, what do you use as a Media Player? Did you get a Real Player? Many of the files are compatible with either the Windows media Player or that one...>.mpegs and .rms.

You'll get it Jen, don't worry...gotta walk before you can fall...errr..run. Q

Buddy!

Hi Buddy! You "find" us by setting up your settings to make a sound when we log on and notify you of such. You need to locate a wav file in an easy to "Browse" to spot like DeskTop or My Documents and then we'll talk some more about how to do that ok? I use the one from the Got Milk commercial myself. The Windows Media player should "leap" into action when you need it automatically...the Real Player probably needs to be started to function first. Basically, an .mpeg should be played by your Windows player without any trouble...Real Player can be a bit more troublesome at times with "buffering" and such. If you copy and paste your mp3 into the Shared Files folder, you should be able to play it. Right Click on your Start button, hit explore and then go to Program Folder and open that...scroll down and find the Aimster Folder and open it, and keep drilling down until you see the Shared Files folder or link. Then paste whatever you may want to share into that. You can do this with any type of picture or media...Aimster should be able to show all types, ok? Let me know if you are comfortable with what we've discussed so far, and then we'll move on. ok? Q

P.S.--there was a thread with a whole bunch of screennames for Aimster...we have quite a few TMF people in there most of the time.

P.P.S.--I just emailed you a nice klaxon .wav for this purpose..its short but noticeable, ok? Put it into the My Documents Folder that's hardcoded on your desktop and we'll work from there, ok?

Q,
Thanks for your help amd patience. I have not recieved your e-mail so, I chose this as my sound for when buddies come online.
C:\My Documents\My Music\giggles.wav
anyone wanting to add me as a buddy may do so. I am njjen3953 there as well.
As for the mp3. i got it to play through Real player. It was the wrong one. LOL It was just music. I put in as a search JEN.mp3 and got some pop thing. So now i need to find it again.
Also, I have all these Aimster folders on my desktop now. The icons are ok, but when I tried moving the folders to 'my documents', the program refused to open.

I bet you never thought this would become such a project when you suggersted me putting the wav there. LOL
Sorry to be such a pest and thanks again.

Jen

No Prob...

Nah,,..I'm semi retired anyway. Now, good job on the wav file, but why do you have Aimster Folders on your desktop? What do they look like and what do they contain? Are they copies or shortcuts or what? The only thing you might want on there is a shortcut to the actual program, although I'd put it into my Start Menu personally ( I like a clean Desktop...lol). Hope we can get together Friday pm around midnight, my usual Aimster time, and chat/transfer a bit, ok? Q

Friday at midnight, hmmmm

That is usually the start of playtime for me, but if Pete is tired, I may be able to chat quietly.<G>
As for the folders, I have 2. They look like folders. One says Aimster and has all the fuction files. The other says Aimster downloads. There is one file in it that I downloaded using Real media.
I tried putting them in my C drive and the program would not open. I also have an icon on my start menu as well as the desk top and 2 different icons on my task bar.
Aimster has taken over my computer. 😱 ROFL.

Hopefully will see you Friday night.

Jen

Yikes...

Alrighty then..let's clean up a bit! Copy and paste or drag and drop the Download folder into the other one named Aimster. Then copy and paste the Aimster folder into your Program Files folder...found by right clicking the Start button, hitting "explore" and scrolling a bit. Check and make sure you have done that and that the Aimster folder is now inside the Program Files folder, and you may then delete the one(s) on your desktop. I'd keep the one icon that is in the Start Menu, delete the others...if they are in the System tray I'll have to talk you through that removal...otherwise you'll be booting it up every time you run the computer. Makes for a slow boot and takes up RAM that you may need elsewhere. Hope you practice with it a bit...it really isn't that bad a piece of programming, just gets a bit too busy nowdays! When you get more familiar with it, Aimster can be quite handy.... Q

Done.

Whew. That is so much better. Thanks a bunch. Last request till Friday. <g>
What do i put in to search for my mp3? Once I find it, what media should I use to play it?

That's all. Gotta love me.
Jen

Search Title

I left it titled "Jen", just as you sent it...if you like I can just e-mail it to you...it's not that big in mp3 form. I would think you would use the Windows player thats built in, unless you have a JukeBox program like Music Match or something. Either way, you sound giggly! Q

It figures

Now that I know what I am doing, i get this when opening Aimster

? Site

Doesn't sound right...you should be activating an exe, not a website, but I never put anything past Aimster...lol. I just booted it up and got right on though. Had you tested it after all the rearranging we did before? If it worked alright then, it's probably just a glitch. Q

Yep. I did test it.

When I click on the icon, the Guardian Aimster Control Panel opens. Anything I click on in that panel gives me that same message.

Jen

Guardian version...

Hmmm...not sure that's a prime version of Aimster. Anyone know more regarding this? BTW..I emailed your mp3 to you tonight, so you can dump it into your folder... Q
