Is there a need for an AI Art Subforum?

I just thought I'd suggest this as it's a sticky area to get into and while I'm in awe at the power of aI images and video, I kind of feel it's starting to overshadow traditional artists. I can only imagine it's frustrating for some artists to spend so long creating something and then have it pushed down the order of new posts by a stream of folks typing a prompt into an online system.

It can be argued against it that AI art is simply a newer form of art, or even that it's a passing fad. I've no skin in the game either way, but thought it may be worth a conversation.

So, is there a need to seperate the two?

I can definitely see a day coming when that will be necessary, but right now I'm not sure it's the right move. The thing about creating subforums is that they split the traffic of a forum and you can end up going from one very active forum to two relatively inactive forums.

We could sub-category the forum to death if we went too far down the road of splitting into what makes sense logically, so I tend to err on the side of "is this necessary?" Right now I'm not sure it reaches that bar, but I can definitely see it coming down the pike.

I dont claim to know nearly enough about either art or AI to weigh in on this with any authority - but to my knowledge, at the moment doesnt AI currently try to create pictures with 8 or 9 fingers per hand because it just doesn't understand bodies? imagine what it would think about toes!

I really depends on the Ai tool, ressources and Model you're using. The current Ai I am using is pretty amazing.
In my attached file, you can still see the error on the left man's left hand... but I still enjoy looking at my works...

admittedly - not bad! now do one with feet though just to check out if I'm super wrong! 🙂

Do be honest, it's pretty easy to use prompt engineering go get the result you want... just tell the tool: "watch the human body proportions..."

Which tool do you use?

I grant you, it's not the worst example in the world. But still 6 toes! It's definitely a lot better than some stuff generated even as little as a few months ago. It'll surpass human soon enough like most things I guess!

Well DALL-E 3 is a year old, it's been more or less capable of the same things since then - that being said I think it may be the best we have right now, if you're looking for realism. That or another model called Flux, but that one is also spotty when it comes to digits.
