Hey everybody!!
Well, after a month of threatening to do so, I finally got out my art supplies, bought a scanner and decided to start drawing again. Here is my first finished product. It's based on my very favorite anime The Slayers with Lina and Naga. Enjoy and please tell me what you think! 😀

Totaly unfamiliar with the subjects but I know kickass art when I see it. LOVE the expressions!! Keep it up, man!

Its very exceptional, thats for sure. You either are incredibly gifted, or you just know your Slayers and practiced, practiced, practiced.

The only negative thing that stands out of course are the two left feet. Everything else is great, especially the coloring. What did you use to color this? It seems like colored pencils, but the scan is too blurry to tell.

Either way, you've got my support. Talent like this cannot be ignored (not that I'm ignoring anyone). With some more practice you could easily become the best artist we have here. The lineart is almost uncanny in it's accuracy. Did you copy a picture when you drew Naga? How long have you been drawing?

Very nice job! Particularly liked the devilishly nonchalant expression on the tickler's face. Don't go dancing with the redhead though - looks to me like she has two left feet.

Why it's Lina Inverse getting it from the mischevious Naga! I love it!

My only complaint is that it looks like Lina has two left feet...

CooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL

*puts head in hands* UUGGHH!!! Do you realize that I didn't notice that until just now?! I must have looked at this thing 100 times! :sigh:
DARN DARN DARN DARN DARN!

Oh well, thanks for the kind words anyway (despite my stupidity).

As for the make up of the drawing itself, I used some Slayers manga books as a reference for the style of anime and for the most the the expressions, but besides that it's all me. Oh, and the coloring was done with prismacolors.

Nice work, dude. Don't feel bad about not noticing the foot thing. I didn't notice until Vlad brought it up.

Don't worry about the mistake. Yes, it is a big mistake, but its something you can prevent in the future by paying extra attention when you get to that part of the lineart. Just don't worry, I've seen some professionals make this mistake in some pictures they made, and I've seen it once in a manga, so its not unheard of or something you should feel stupid for.

Where did you get the prisma colors? Artists friends of mine keep telling me I'd be good at using them since I have a good sense for color coordination, but I never seem to be able to find these prisma colors.

I wouldn't find something like this at a "Michael's" store would I? I have one nearby, and it seems to have a pretty extensive art section, but I don't know if they carry prisma color markers. If I were to use them it would make my job much easier in the coloring process and would cut the time in half, and give me more precise control over tones and textures (the computer program I use ironically doesn't give me that). I prefer something more natural, like coloring it by hand, anyway. I get more satisfaction out of it.

Prisma colors? They are good pencils but quite expensive as I recall. You should be able to find them at a well stocked Michaels. If not try AC Moore or even an Office Max with a good art supply section. The Office Max by me has a TON of art stuff.
If all else fails they should have a list of stores that carry their products on their website. 😀

its a great drawing.

btw, seriously naga has this annoying laugh. I just wanna throw a timberland boot at her.

Yeah, so I've heard, about the price that is. They're sold in sets, right? I'm not sure which quantities they come in though. I think one is 72. I thought they were more like markers, not colored pencils.

I guess theres two kinds.

Anyways, thanks Ness.

Well Prisma is the brand...I assumed you were talking pencils cause...well..cause I assumed. 😛 Yeah they come in big sets but I've also seen smaller. Can't tell you about markers though as I didnt even know they made them. In general (other than painting) I'm strictly a black and white artist when using paper. Never got much into coloring. 😛

I actually got them at a place called Hobby Lobby that is right near where I work. I'm sure you can find them at Michaels though, I've seen them there before. There ARE prisma color markers, but I used colored pencils (not too fond of markers). I purchased a small set of them at first with just the primary colors thinking that I could blend/mix the colors I needed. That cost me around $20. Then I realized that I was not getting exactly the right hues or values so I opted to buy more, individually this time. I bought 6 more at $1.25 a piece, so yeah, they're a bit pricey. They do produce an amazing product though.

Yeah, I thought he was talking about those professional prisma color markers. Maybe he is, I don't know now. Although the picture doesn't look like it was colored with regular colored pencils, unless again, the slight blurriness of the picture is offsetting the markings.

That is a really really awesome picture! It was a little blurry though, so I sharpened it a little bit, I hope you don't mind. Keep up the amazing work, though. You're REALLY talented!

First of all, great pic! I'm always happy to see more Slayers art. You have talent, my friend. Please do more!

Anyway, I tried fixing the two left feet with photoshop. Its not perfect, but not bad IMO.
