The summer was fast arriving, and with that, so was Kayley's summer vacation. from school.
Ross and Kayley "Could" have engaged in the "usual " summer activates that wealthy people from the city did, The Hamptons, Montauk, and Nantucket.
Usually, Ross would take two separate weeks off from the office during the summer, and take two separate trips with Kayley, to both get away from New York City, and from the office.
That summer, Ross had a rather, dramatic idea.
Ross came home from the office one Friday night,and said to Kayley "Honey, instead of us doing the usual one week in the Hamptons, and one week in New England, what would you think if we did something. "Dramatically Different" this time. ?"
Kayley laughed. "Okay, Geography Boy, name it"
"I take.. a month off from the office, and we just travel. I've seen these one to two week cruises listed to places like Alaska where it is light with midnight sun 24 hours a day. When we get back from Alaska, we spend time say, in Beverly Hills for a week, and then, on the way home, one, short, two day trip to Vegas, total vacation, three or four weeks. You're off all summer anyway, and I really need to just get the fuck out of here. The office accounts are covered, I can explain to Fritz that I cant come down for a deal or two because I need to go away and think about things. I show one of the Vice Presidents exactly what to do with Tim's monthly work, and then I call Mister Patrick and tell him that I am going away with you for a while to take a good, hard look at my life, everything overall, my work life, and my relationship with him. If he gives me any static I will tell him that I will then have no choice but to resign from his account immediately, and that I cannot take the drama and negative impact that he is having on my health, my personal life, and my work life" Ross said.
Kayley smiled. "I think that sounds like the best idea you have had in a long time. It will give us a chance to spend a lot of time together, it will give you a chance to relax, unwind, and take a good look at things from a global standpoint" Kayley said.
"I'm sure when I explain this idea and why I'm doing it to Fritz and Steve, they will understand. If they want to move forward with a deal regarding oil and gas, I will either not be involved, take a lesser fee, or let Alan Hell take the money and hold it for me" Ross said.
"I love it,. Let's look into it, and make the trip" Kayley said.
"I will call the office twice a week, but I will not obsess. This is about me spending time with you, unwinding, and assessing my life" Ross said.

Kayley kissed Ross. "Wonderful"
The next morning, when Ross went into the office, he called a meeting.
"Staff meeting for anyone who is here ASAP. Anyone who is not here can have it explained to them, or I will meet with those people later today" Ross said.
Many people filed into the office conference room. Ross turned his cell phone off and put the office answering machines on to take calls.
Ross sighed and walked around.
"Ross, you look troubled. Are you okay?" Vic asked.
"I wish I could say I am, Victor, but I think you know that I am far from okay" Ross said.
Then Ross continued.
"While some of you might not know the details, I'm sure that most people in this room know the general difficulties that Mister Patrick and I have been having in our business and personal relationships lately Quite frankly, I am thoroughly fed up with the situation between myself and Mister Patrick" Ross said,.
Then Ross continued. "Mister Patrick and I have had discussions about my resigning from his account We have had discussions where he has threatened to fire me, and then changed his mind. The bottom line is, things between Mister Patrick and myself are extremely tense,. and almost at the breaking point" Ross said.
"The problem is, Mister Patrick and I are very involved in business together. It would be a dramatic change for him to fire me, where he might not be able to get someone who services him and who he trusts more than he trusts me. If I resign, the same condition exists. If either of those things happen, it might not, and likely won't make sense for me to keep RossShell due to the major financial hit the company will and would take if it's largest client that pays us millions of dollars a year, is no longer our client" Ross said.
"Both Kayley and myself are very concerned about my emotional and physical health due to all that has gone on with Mister Patrick. Thus, last night, we came up with an idea. The bottom line is, I feel like I need a hiatus, a vacation, from both Mister Patrick, and all the things that go on here. I'm not talking about a week or two. Last night Kayley and I agreed that during her summer vacation, I am going to take one month off from both the office, and Mister Patrick. I will show one of the Vice Presidents exactly what to do with Mister Patrick's monthly work, and that person is to please follow what I show them exactly. As for the oil and gas, I'm going to go down to OKC, meet with Fritz and Steve face to face, and explain to them exactly what I plan to do, and why I plan to do it. Knowing how understanding and generous they both are, as both people and my partners, I personally think they will agree with and understand my decision". The other accounts that are being serviced by the people in the office who do so, continue as usual " Ross said.
"Ross, what happens if Mister Patrick does not agree to this, and fires you?" Vic said.
Ross sighed., "That could happen. I dont think it will, but if it does, then I have to look at everything. It does not mean that if he does that, I will automatically sell RossShell. I would then have a great deal of thinking of what to do with the company, and see if there is a way around it" Ross said.
"Are you going to call Tim and tell him this?" Vic asked.
"Yes, I am, tomorrow. It was difficult enough to bring this subject up to everyone without my approaching him. In the event that my idea does not work, and I'm forced to close the company, I will then give anyone who loses their position generous severance pay, and stellar letters of recommendations. Let me be clear. If this development does occur, it would be solely because of something between Mister Patrick and myself, and not anything that anyone else in this room did" Ross said.
Ross broke up the meeting, did mundane paperwork that day, and then lied in bed with Kayley that night.
"Okay, part one done. Situation explained to the people who work at RossShell. Part two comes tomorrow" Ross said.
"What do you think Timothy will say?" Kayley asked.
Ross sighed. "Honey, I dont know. I'm going to remain firm in this decision and not let him manipulate me. I need this, for my physical and emotional health, for my relationship with you, and for any future I would have with him if any, and RossShell's potential future" Ross said.
Ross was headed on a course of the unknown.
Would Tim accept Ross's decision, and understand that Ross needed a hiatus from things, or would Tim fight Ross, fire Ross, or force Ross to resign, which would change Ross's Kayley's and Tim's lives forever?
Those things would be seen.
