Ross promised Tim, Kayley, and himself that he would stay completely put in New York during the whole situation with analyzing the new company that Tim had bought.
Ross knew that such process would take about a month.
However, once one week had gone by, Ross was hit with a major problem that caused him to lose his focus.
Within about a week of Ross's promise to not leave New York, and stay for a month, to analyze Tim's company, Ross got the following phone call from his 81 year old father.
"Ross, I just found out I have two torn hip flexors. I am meeting with a Doctor on Monday to discuss an operation. ""
Ross nearly hit the ceiling.
While Ross said. "Dad I'm here to support you for whatever decision you make"
Ross hung up the phone, closed his office door, and started crying.
Ross's father, who still did consulting in spite of his advanced age, had undergone a total of a half a dozen operations on his back, shoulders, and now, was facing two hip replacement operations, all within a total of two years.
Ross could not compose himself. He went out to lunch at Shun Lee. turned his phone down, did not answer it, kept texting anyone who called with "Eating lunch and thinking" As he tried to figure out his thoughts.
When Ross got back to the office, he knew that he had to push himself through for Kayley's sake, his own, and Tim's.
Ross decided to call Tim to tell him the situation.
Tim was very understanding. "Ross, you always bust your ass for me, and you never let me down. Now that we have the company, and all you have to do is analyze it, there is really no time frame. Just do the best you can, and if it happens a week later, it does. " Tim said.
"Thanks, buddy. I will be honest. I feel like I am, closed in, and need to get out of here. What I may do, is work the normal week, go down to OKC for the weekend just to get a change of scenery, and then be back in the office by noon Monday. Even if I meet with Fritz, Steve, and a few investors, at least it gets me out of here. Kayley is invited if she wants to come. If not, that is between her and me. Is that okay?" Ross asked.
Tim Laughed "Yes, Ross. I am your client, and friend, not your keeper. Maybe you should get out of here this weekend. Tell Kayley, and see what she says. If she does not want to come, then go yourself. Talk to her" Tim said.
"Thanks, buddy. Let's make a meeting at Shun Lee for or by Tuesday. By then I will be home, finished with OKC, and will try to settle back down" Ross said.
"Tell me what time and I will be there" Tim said.
"I will call Monday afternoon to discuss details" Ross said.
When Ross got home, he told Kayley.
Unfortunately, Kayley was not nearly as supportive as Ross would have liked.
"Ross, I'm very sorry about your Dad, but.. you are going off the rails. I already talked to your Dad, and he is calmer than you are" Kayley said.
"Kale, I'm sorry if you cant understand that the person I love second most in the world after you is having this problem, and I am shaken up. Is that not.. rather insensitive of you?" Ross asked, in an almost accusatory tone.
"Ross, you are taking what I said all wrong. Never did I say I was insensitive. You know that I'm very sorry your Dad and you are going through this. It's just, please try to calm down" Kayley said, attempting to be diplomatic.
"I want to go to OKC this weekend Friday to Monday to get the fuck out of here. I hope you will join me. Maybe a change of scenery and doing some meetings and deal making will change my mood and calm me down . I can send you home on a plane Sunday to not miss work Monday, or, you can take an administrative day or call in sick Monday and come home with me, your choice" Ross said.
"Okay, call the guys and tell them we will be there. Let's just say that while I wish we did not have to leave. We are still going to do something more productive than blowing money in Vegas. Even if you don't do or start a big deal, you guys will make something. I agree, and will be with you" Kayley said.
Ross kissed Kayley "Thanks, Babe"
On Friday night, Ross and Kayley took an early evening plane to OKC. They got off, dropped their bags at the hotel, and went to dinner.
"Ross, we are so sorry about your Dad. Being here will be good for you. It will allow you to make some money, and brighten your mood. Nothing complex this weekend. We will meet with ten to twelve investors at the office early tomorrow, take whoever wants to out to the fields, sign up whoever wants to. We know that likely we will get half those people, and it will still be worth your while. Oh, by the way, so we dont have to FEDEX them, here are your monthly investment checks" Fritz said, handing Ross and Kayley their checks for about $100,000 each.
"Thanks, buddy/. I guess dinner is on me. I cant say I dont have money when I just got these, but I would have paid anyway" Ross said
That night, Ross and Kayley went to the hotel and slept.
The next morning, Saturday, Ross, Fritz and Steve, with Kayley there as well, met with fourteen potential investors at the office.
They went through a three hour presentation of the company, numbers, needed investment, well and well sites, etc.
After this, the people had lunch, and then broke up.
After dinner with Fritz, Steve, Kayley, and Ross on Saturday night with the people.
Sunday morning bright and early, it was off to the wells with what turned out to be twenty five possible investors, as word of mouth had brought more people around.
There was a four hour show around and discussion between Ross, Fritz, Steve, and the well runners.
When the well show was over, and they went back to the office.
Twelve people committed to signing up, and would ante up money that week. Nine said no, Three maybe, and one really wavering.
Ross took a deep breath, shook Steve and Fritz's hands, and hugged Kayley.
"You guys can really leave on the last plane if you want. We are done here" Fritz said.
Ross and Kayley looked at each other. "Okay let's go to the hotel, get the bags, and get on the last plane out of here"
Ross and Kayley ended up making a midnight plane out of OKC, arriving at 5 am,
Kayley was too tired to go to school, and Ross was too tired to go to the office, so both just checked in, and crashed.
The couple slept through the morning
Ross stirred about noon.
"I should work on Tim's analysis, but I dont care about that now. I worked all weekend in OKC. I will deal with it tomorrow" Ross said.
"What do you want to do?" Kayley said.
"Walk To Main Street just to get some air. Do you want me to wait for you, or do you want to wait here?" Ross said.
"I'll come, give me a few to get dressed" Kayley said.
Ross and Kayley got dressed, walked to Main Street hand in hand, and went to a Chinese Eatery on Main Street.
After ordering, Ross , usually a loquacious talker, said very little.
His weekend, financially, would be very successful.,
At that point , Ross did not care about such, as he already had millions of dollars.
Ross knew that he could do nothing about or for his father until his father's doctors and his father decided about whether Ross's father would need surgery or not.
Thus, he had done one good thing, gotten away, focused on doing a deal, would do that deal, and would make money.
Now, Ross was home, and had to focus on Tim, the project Tim had given him, and how to best handle it for Tim.
While Tim had been very understanding, and said there was "No Time table" Ross had to stay focused.
The most important situation, Ross's father and his health, was out of Ross's control.
Ross had to try to focus, and just see what would happen
