I just started getting into Anime so im still very new to it i love watching Adult swim though on cartoon network like lupin the 3rd Trigun Cowboy Bebop are my favs

My recommendations:

Hellsing for stylish coolness and furious vampire action.

Jin Roh for plot, cruelty and dark pathos.

FLCL for weird funny and the continuous feeling of "Huh?"

Spirited Away for a trip down the rabbit hole and into the land of dreams and legends.

Vampire Hunter D, because - well, just because. Must see.

Card Captor Sakura, because it's the low-fat way to tooth-decay and sugar shock.

And, of course, Grave of the Fireflies.

Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Hellsing, Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, Record of Lodoss War, Big Wars, The Vision of Escaflowne, Robotech (all of the sagas, but Macross I believe is the first and best IMO), Jin Roh, Ninja Scroll, Princess Mononoke, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Blue Submarine 6, Gundam Wing, Dragon Ball Z.

As to series: Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Lupin the Third, Blue Submarine 6, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin, Robotech, Card Captor Sakura, Inuyasha, Tenchi Muyo, and many more I have forgotten. However, you may not like all of these since I like all types of anime, instead of a few specific groups. I have yet to find an anime I don't like.

Uh, I'd suggest Evangelion, for having the deepest plot in any anime I've ever seen. Ranma ½ takes the prize of best manga in my book. Rurouni Kenshin, in my opinion, has some of the best fight scenes (although you poor Toonami people won't have seen the good ones yet..). Slayers, is another good mix of everything. Some people don't like it though, its one of those 'either you love it or you hate it' things. And Puni Puni Poemi beats even FLCL on the crazyness meter!

Those are my personal top 5, but I'd also suggest Excel Saga, Maze: The mega-burst space, Urusei Yatsura, Mahoromatic (especially season 2), Bubblegum Crisis (Preferably the originals), Battle Athletes, Project A-ko, Pretty Sammy (And especially Magical Project S), Burn up W/X, Mamono Hunter Yohko, 3x3 Eyes and Love Hina. I'd also say Hellsing and some others, but they've already been mentioned ^^x;

You scare me. Let me tell you about Odin. 40 MINUTES worth of it was cut out of the wester release (Don't ask me why). Below, I've put together a brief explination of the movie:

"Hey we're cadets, yay we're running around on a spaceship!"

"Hey we have one cute female officer, lets all drool over her (even though she's actually not cute)!"

"By the way, our captain sucks and we should mutiny!"

"YEAH!"

*Insert some bad sound effects*

"We have taken over the ship and put the captain in the brig!"

"Yay."

"Now lets go that way!"

*Insert zoom sound effects as the ship uses the same footage over and over, flying through space*

"Look at that a planet, lets go down there and check it out!"

"Okay we're on the planet now--OH MY GOD ALIEN ROBOT ZOMBIE MACHINES!"

"Grrr, we're going to kill you cause the director says so!"

"Ahh I'm hit."

Heathens. you're forgetting the origonals (except Marauder, kudos on Vampire hunter D. It's just genius)

Fist of the North Star. I shall say no more on that one. Just watch them, all of them.

Dominion Tank Police. I can't beleive no-one has mentioned this yet, shame on you lol...

Blood, the last Vampire. It's shortness will leave you asking for more, because its truly superb.

Akira. It's been mentioned already, but it deserves to be mentioned more. Both that and Ghost in the Shell are class films in there own right, and the pinnacle of manga IMO.

Metropolis...a new one to me, only just reently watched it, and its very good indeed, a nice update on the 30's origonal flawed masterpeice. Definately worthy of a look at.

Ninja Scroll. My god, I watched that and wanted to be Jubei. Really, really badly, well, either him or the Blind Samuri whom Jubei kills through pure flukiness, lol...

and also, the first Street Fighter anime (avoid the sequel and of course the live action versions at al costs, the're dire). The origonal is the best, and it captures the Capcom coin-up feel of the snes games perfectly.

A few of them were already mentioned, so I didn't repeat them. I have the DVD of Metropolis, which was made by the same guy who did Astroboy, so woo! Dominion Tank Police and New Dominion Tank Police are great classics, but the manga's better (As usual). Personally, I didn't care much for Street Fighter, Ninja Scroll or Fist of the North Star--but they're just not my kinda thing. I'd still say they're good.

I can recommend Fushigi Yugi... I have not seen the whole series, yet.... but episodes 1-26 are way cool.

Actually, it's sometimes on during the day too, like Saturday afternoons, and weekdays at 4:30 out here on the East Coast.
