If you ask me, this thread shouldn't even be in this forum, since it's just bump and filler material, nothing new, for the most part. The same goes for other similar threads that act as an archive for pictures. Because these threads are constantly bumped (as in this case, due to arguing rather than productive contributing), it takes attention away from other threads and routs it here when perhaps it shouldn't. It definitely shouldn't because the thread's being bumped by arguing, as is the case.

So all I can say is that I'd at least appreciate it if you guys used this thread for what it's for: sharing. At least agree to disagree for the sake of this archive not being bumped when it shouldn't be. I think I may take these threads up with the mods later and see if we cannot work out some arrangement to move them elsewhere so that they don't bump down other, newer threads with new material, and certainly don't get bumped because of whats going on right now.

These threads are obviously not in any danger, but newer threads may not not make it if threads like these are always at the top and always getting bumped, regardless of the reason. It steals the thunder of newer threads, and I don't think thats fair to the creators of newer threads, especially if they are contributing something new or something they made themselves.

Hardly arguing is not an excuse, unfortunately. I'm not being harsh, just realistic and practical. If people can just go off on a tangent (like what I'm now consequentially doing by responding to you and this thread) and keep a thread at the top when it wouldn't be there otherwise, I think thats a concern.

To answer your question, a bump means when you respond to a thread. They call it a bump because any new posts take the thread and move it to the top of the forum thread list. It bumps them from where ever they were to the top.

This is a natural occurrence, of course (new activity needs to be at the top so people can see it), but where it becomes a problem is when people argue, troll, spam, or make posts not worthy of the bump they generate. Depending on the topic, you can get away with it, but it's not very considerate. This thread is for sharing anime feet pictures, so a conversation about what is and is not anime, either by definition of the word or by definition of style, is off-topic and therefore not legitimate bumping.

Now, where my gripe comes in is that these conversations, legitimate or not, bump down other threads in this forum which are not conversation threads either, unless demonstrated as or used for. So, naturally, that means threads like this will always be at the top. If someone posts a new thread with new material or a picture they drew them self, it often gets bumped down within minutes even, and may not a get a response that it might have otherwise gotten had it been on the top a while longer. It just comes down to people being lazy. I know that most people do not bother even looking past the 10th thread or so. If they do, it's only looking. And any threads that are past page 1 are pretty much dead, even if they are otherwise relatively fresh. They're dead because they're no longer visible unless you bother to turn the page. If people were not so lazy and paid attention, threads like this one being bumped and always at the top wouldn't be a problem.

It's not that this thread is popular, its that it's big. That what keeps it at the top, not quality and not content even, but the fact that it houses a large number of pictures which diverts attention and makes people want to go here instead, figuring they'll get what they want or were looking for here. Whether or not that is true is beside the point, though. Other one-shot threads (the majority of threads) suffer because they have to compete with the other one-shot threads AND a huge archive thats always at the top. It then becomes about odds and the chances that your thread will be the one to last long enough to get at least some views and a response or two.

This may not seem very important at first, or at all, in some people's minds, but it does effect the flow of threads and not for the better. It becomes about plain survival through unbalanced attention, not quality and sometimes not even content, and thats unfortunate since alot of good stuff can often get overlooked and lost. It's only if you're specifically looking for something that you'll find it in a search, but unless you're doing that and looking past page 1, chances are you'll just settle for what you see on the first page.

I think talking/asking about whether you're going to get back on topic isn't getting back on topic. In this case, the situation goes back to normal by people, one after the other, no longer replying to posts not containing pictures. If this means having to ignore someone (even though you're not really), then thats what you've got to do. Otherwise, it's just a chain of responses where everyone is asking everyone else whether you'll all stop or not.

So....please don't respond to this post, anyone, or you're not helping. XD

Well I thought the whole point of a forum was to post responses, they are not like imageboards which are only meant for the posting of pics. And the way that Vladislaus Dracula puts it, he doesn't want anyone to argue at all or to give their side of the story to what he just posted in his replies, otherwise he will get these threads moved which is unrealistic and unfair as you can't stop people from doing these things. While I understand his point, these are forums and not imageboards, and such things are going to happen from time to time.
(now that I think about it he'll probably get me banned now for being outspoken...this sucks)
