ankles crossed

This to me, seems the obvious way to restrain somebody for a foot tickling session. But I seldom, if ever, have seen this done. Why is that? Anybody try this? I think it really limits the ler's movements nicely.

I'd think it would be rather difficult to secure ankles crossed while allowing the 'lee to comfortably extend his/her legs. I can see how it'll prevent the 'lee from hopping away or something, but foot-wiggling is still very possible with crossed-ankles, as much so as feet-together. I do find the position rather cute, though I'd see it as more practical in a tie-up game than a tickle position, personally.

What it DOES ensure is that no matter how much the 'lee's feet wiggled, they wouldn't be able to cross over the other in an attempt at protection. That could perhaps cause the 'lee to feel more helpless. Also, by being tied that way, each sole would be facing in two different directions, allowing any ticklish instrument more than one angle to attack from...which may also increase that helpless feeling.

because it would restrict availability of the knees to tickling? I dunno, that'd be my reason. That, and there'd just be too much potential for unwanted slack.

Myself, I prefer the feet next to each other, uncrossed, just like the pic in your sig, as when the toes are tied together, it leaves the soles flat out open, and together, like a wider canvas. And besides, having both feet tickled at the same time is a much wilder effect than one at a time.
And besides, don't want to limit the lee's movements too much. The sensual dance and thrashing about helplessly is sexy as hell.

Well, actually...if the feet were held back-to-back, and the toes tied together THAT way...now that would be an interesting position, indeed!
