I found Ceshire Cat's idea of some Dark Eldar Wyches being tickled by Tyranids so intresting that I just had to draw a picture of it.
I thought the good old genestealers (for those of you who know a bit about the 40k background) would be just the perfect ticklers: they have four arms! Plus, with the new genestealer variant minatures GW has released, some of those 'stealers can even have tentacled heads! That I just had to use.

(The technique I used here is a bit different from my other painted work, but it's a lot quicker.)

Hope you like it!

Thats really great. Was this done with watercolors, or what? It would seem theres an ease in coloring this way and that its faster. I should probably try it sometime. 🙂

I almost decided to collect a Tyranid army right before I started collecting Sisters. It was a really tough decision because the new Nid models are really cool. I especially like the new Zoanthropes. But I had to go with Sisters. The story and fluff for them is really good.

Masterful style! Those soft warm earth tones and grays work very well! The action is nicely captured, too. I'm impressed you can produce fine artwork like this so quickly!

Yeah, thats what impressed me the most about this, the speed in which he did it. While watercolors are easy to use and they can cover an area quickly and saturate it with color, you have to know what you're doing to get it right. 🙂

Well, I used a brown marker pen to trace over my initial sketch. I then used watercolours to paint it... (well, mostly sepia ink and diluted blue and ochre acrylic paint) but did the highlights with some white acrylic paint added to the ground colour. I did some rough shading on the genestealers with my marker pen afterwards.
The tiny splotches of paint are just a way I found to add dynamism to the scene quickly and easily.
I'm glad you guys like it!

Yeah, I could tell there was more than just watercolor work here. Its really well put together. 🙂

Great art I have read some of the books in the series All but one of the Gaunt's Ghosts and 3 of the Commisar Cain series

Also, what armies do you play/collect? Do you play the fantasy version at all?

Sadly I don't play or collect I drive big rig here in the U.S. and don't have time to play it There are some interesting models of armored vehicles I wish to build

What armies I have?
Well, I only play 40k (but I do know all of the background of Fantasy). I've got a space marine army (not really balanced, but playable ruleswise) and I have a sisters of battle army in the making (purely sisters, no ordo hereticus). I always loved those sisters (some of the very first miniatures I bought were sisters!) Besides that, I have the "Battle for macragge" boxed game, so I got some tyranids too.

I have played 40k only a few times yet (well I did play the old Space Hulk game a lot -hence my fondness of genestealers).
Also, I have to balance the miniature painting against my regular painting and drawing (and my tickling artwork!)

I wasn't asking you actually, General. You posted right before I did. But since you answered me, do you have an idea for which army/armies you'd be interested in?

If you like lots of tanks and artillery, the Imperial Guard is probably the right army for you. They have different variations of tanks armed differently and suited for different mission roles.

Heres a link for the Imperial Guard, General, and the miniatures available in that line. Be warned though, they are all expensive. Almost nothing will cost less than 10 dollars, and the tanks are usually the most expensive models available. Its an expensive hobby and game, but well worth it on so many levels:

Here is the link to the standard Guard forces:

http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/imperialguard/catalog/default.htm

Here is the link to the Catachan Death World forces of the Guard:

http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/catachans/catalog/default.htm

And here's the link to the Steel Legion forces of the Guard (my personal favorite from the Imperial Guard model range, I might collect an army later):

http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/imperialguard/catalog/steel_legion/default.htm

Click on the questionmark icons to learn more about a particular model or boxset. Also, all models are supplied unassembled and unpainted. This is an actual hobby and so requires you build and paint everything yourself (perhaps the most rewarding experience).

Also, I'm sure theres lots of folks wondering what the hell Warhammer is, so heres the link to the U.S site- (the site is also available in other languages which can be accessed from the main home page if you so desire)-

http://us.games-workshop.com/

On the nav bar at the top theres links to the existing most popular Gamesworkshop games. Warhammer (the fantasy verson) Warhammer 40,000 (futuristic verison), Lord of the Rings, Battlefleet Gothic, Mordheim, etc.

I started with the GW hobby a few years ago. As I said my first army was a Chaos fantasy army. At first I was going to build a tzeentch force but decided slaanesh had better spells with a good tactical use and the color schemes and models were the best ones for that line. The Daemonettes of Slaanesh are particuraly awesome, especially the mounted ones on their steeds of Slaanesh. They're the fastest calvary unit in the entire game.

Recently as of a couple months ago I started collecting Sisters (a pure sisters force like you, nothing else, just sisters, celestian sisters, domininon sisters, seraphim sisters, and my favorite so far the retributor sisters. Then of course theres the sisters repentia, and of course the immolators and exorcist tanks).

And of course the HQs are nothing but Palatines and Canonesses.

I am tempted to add a penitent engine, but then I'd have to have a Priest in the army and that means having a male in the army. And part of what makes our armies so unique is that its an all-girl force.

Yeah, I have to balance what I do also. The hobby, as I just explained to General Zod is very expensive, as you know. And weighing what I need versus what I want is something to always consider. My artwork is probably first before this hobby so I'd sooner put money into supplies, tools or programs than this, but this game/hobby allows me to be very expressive as well as an artist, and you meet lots of interesting people when you go to play these games at the GW stores, at public events, tournaments, or wherever.

Sorry about the mixup Count I do thank you for the links You weren't kiddin about the prices on the armored vehicles That Lehman Russ Demolisher does look tempting I have built 1/35 scale W.W.2 armor so these kits should be no problem

No problem. Its just as well that it was directed at you too. I take it you are more of a collector than a hobbiest. If so, these models would be great for you. GW makes some impressive models.

Holy crap that was fast!! Thats awesome man!!

I was always drawn to the Orcs because of the way you can take weapons and machinery from virtually any other army (save for Tyranid) and just convert it to their style. With little grip on developing their own technology, the Orcs simply steal it from other races and make it their own. I remember I had a 4 legged Orc Dreadnought made from half a Space Marine tank and some other spare parts. Plus of any army you can field the most troops for the least point value with the Orcs, as their main strength is in overwhelming the opponent with sheer numbers....

I had started an Undead army for the original Warhammer back when that army was still available, including a customization on the Skeleton Horse/Carriage combo; I made it into Rob Zombie driving Dragula. My other centerpiece was Beetlejuice riding on the head of a Sandworm coming out of the ground LOL. To this day I forget where I put that damn box....

Wow. I can't pretend to know what the hell you're all talking about (please, no explanations!), but the art is top-notch. 🙂

Do you mean the Vampire Counts, or something else? Beetlejuice woud be cool to see on the tabletop.

A friend of mine was telling me how a friend of his created this character and backstory for him and everything. He's basically this old hick farmer who one day beat to death an orc with his shovel, and the guy actually made a model for this and the shovel now has special powers or whatever and the character causes an automatic morale/pinning check in Orcs he's within 6 inches of them or something. LOL This is for 40k not, fantasy, which makes it funnier. 😀

I seem to remember they changed the name around at some point from Vampire Counts to The Undead Army or vice versa......my whole theme was gonna be horror inspired music and movie images. One piece I never finished was my 4 horsemen, modeled after Kiss (mostly after the armor-clad action figures that Tod Mcfarlane did at that time). I had also done models for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a squad of maniacs including Jason Vorhees, Leatherface and Michael Meyers.....god only knows where they are now...

Well now after the Storm of Chaos is over, the Undead Army has different subdivisions for each vampire family bloodline. They had them prior to the storm as well, but now they seem more unified than before as the threat rises.

In the story of warhammer however, the Vampire Counts are represented as a single nation and flag called the Army of Slyvania, which is led by Manfred Von Carstein.

I have the codex book for the vampire counts, so what you're talking about is probably a 4th edition text. Because the current book is 5th edition I think. I don't like it when they keep tinkering with the rules though. Because they end up taking away things that were nice.

Its always cool when either of these games gets new models, though. 🙂

You should finish those models, make rules and profiles for them and see if anyone will be willing to play against them. It kind of sucks that you have to ask your opponent's permission to use special lists or characters, because then that means theres less a chance you'll ever be able to field them. But usually once you're in a gaming group and know at least several people that you'll play against often that they'll less about the competition and more about just having silly fun and would probably let you field whatever your imagination can come up with. 🙂

Wonerful image! love the vines wrapped around their arms - great style and overall image

Back to the origins. The acrylics.

Thumbs up.
