Antivirus Question

As I think I posted before, I had certain parts of my computer which crashed a few weeks ago, and that I replaced and had installed last week.

At the time I installed and got this new parts/system working, I installed Avast free antivirus.

Tonight I got a notice saying.

"Your Mcafee Antivirus renews for $85 in 30 days."

I think that when the tech installed some of the original parts to the computer in June 2020, he installed Mcafee. I must have paid him an extra fee for it.

So my question is., If I already have Avast, do I need the Mcafee? Are two antivirus programs needed, or is one Avast enough, and can I cancel the Mcafee before the automatic $85 fee comes due, and the new Mcafee is installed, or to be safe, should I just keep both the Avast and the McAfee?

Any advice from someone more tech experienced than me would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Personally, I use Avast and Malwarebytes. Antivirus programs and malware fighting programs are similar, but they have some differences. I run scans with each periodically. Malwarebytes also has some nice firewall features, although since I have the pay version, I can't remember if any of them are available with the free version.

I might have had Malwarebytes at some point, but not in a while.

Thanks for the info. I will look into it.

Dang.. at first I thought you were asking something about COVID..... But, years ago, I think I read something that you shouldn't have more than one anti-virus program running, that they might conflict with each other. But I'm still a relative PC dummy.

Thanks, rdhd.

No Covid., thankfully.

Happy Holidays, my friend

It's not good to have multiple anti-virus/malware programs on your computer Mitch. It can create conflicts with your PC. I'd go with either Avast or Norton and stay away from Mcafee Antivirus.
