Ok, this has probably been posted before (but, who cares, it's my thread, and I could post all about all the fun you could have watching paint dry...but I won't..mainly because watching paint dry is the most boring pastime in the world).

Just wondering if any of you have cats, what are their names, what are they like, etc. Well, I have two white cats, named Daisy and Bertie. They're twin brother and sister (Bertie being the brother, Daisy being the sister), and they're also both mad. Daisy is light and athletic, who will often bring in 'gifts' which consist of dead rodants and birds which are still alive. However, she will often belt about the house for no reason, and sleep in the weirdest places (I got some DVDs packaged in a parcel a few days back, NOW she sleeps in the box, along with all the inner wrappings. Bertie, by contrast, is fat, lazy and dim. If you want an example of how dim he is, he often doesn't bother to go through the cat flap, and bats his paw against it and meows for someone to let him in (maybe that's just laziness). He's also something of a bully towards other cats and often gets in fights, but at home, he's a complete softie.

Well, for anyone who is still awake after my rambling and who has cats, please post a reply 🙂

:cat: raising paw.....er, ummm....hand :cat:

I love cats. We have one "officially". He's a big orange tiger...big as in about 22 lbs. His name is benji. He's an indoor cat since we can't have him dragging in stuff I'm allergic to. He's about 10 years old and a total spaz. He's very particular about things. He'll generally only play with Drew. But, when it's time to cuddle, he wants me. When he wants something, he'll sit and stare at me like he's trying to get me to pick up on his brainwaves. The scarey part is...I usually do! lol At some point nearly every evening, he ends up racing back and forth through the house totally spazzing out over nothing. It's a riot to watch him go.

We also have 4 strays that have adopted us. Though we can't actually take any of them in, we do feed the female who's the runt of the group. (She and two of the others are sister and brothers from a litter that someone tossed out in the back lot a little over a year ago.) The guys sneak some food now and then as well. So, they all hang out on our patio a lot. We set up a storage bin with an old plastic table cloth over the winter so they'd have some shelter when it was real nasty out.

I'd rather have a cat than a dog any day. They're easier to care for and (those I've had) more affectionate. Benji even knows when I'm upset or not feeling well and will immediately come and cuddle with me.

We have three cats now, because one of them died last year.

Our newest cat is a black and white long hair, a little over a year old. Her name is Nikita, and she is a terrific mouser. She lives outside all the time, and she follows us around when we work in the yard. She has an insulated house on the back porch, a heating pad in the winter, and she gets cereal cat food every day (if we're home.)

The other two cats are indoor kitties:

Sassafras is a twelve-year-old tortoise-shell calico. She was my cat before the wife and I married. This cat has major b*lls! She's affectionate with me, and somewhat so with my wife, but she will stand her ground and fight anything else... humans, cows, raccoons, dogs, other cats ... anything!

Calvin is a thirteen-year-old tom cat. He was my wife's cat before we met, just the same it's obvious he loves me to pieces. He's gray and white, and looks a good deal like Tom of Tom and Jerry cartoons. Calvin is super affectionate and very easy-going most of the time. He puts up with all kinds of crap from his sister, Sassy, without giving her the butt-whippin' she usually deserves.

Calvin has the ability to swell up to about twice his normal size when he's ready to fight. He weighs in around sixteen pounds, but he can swell up to the size of a large Cocker Spaniel. I have seen him get aggressive twice, once with a tradesman he didn't like, and once in the middle of the night when he woke up from a nightmare. At the time he was sleeping on the bed with my wife and me. I woke up from his growl to find that he was starting to inflate himself and he had a crazed look in his eyes. He was looking at me, but his eyes weren't focused. (Scared the crap out of me, lemme tell ya!) I kicked him off the bed and he came back to his senses. Thank God! He looked mean enough to take all six shots from the 357 magnum I keep on the night stand. I'm not sure they'd even have slowed him down.

I actually have 15 of the little hairballs.

Pumpkin was the first. She's an orange tiger (rare for a female) who had two litters. She had them with a big black one named Houdini who passed on a while ago. She's a love and nuzzles me whenever she can...she also has a habit of sleeping on my pillow over my head.

Her first litter was Oliver (orange tiger), the smartest cat I've ever seen in my life; Stimpy (orange tiger) a great big lummox; Xena (grey tiger) who keeps to herself but has figured out how to turn on the water faucet for a drink; and Patches (calico) who weighs in at 26 pounds. There was also Mary-Jane who just up and disappeared one day.

Her second litter was Itchy (orange tiger) who is a neurotic wreck who licks his fur off; and Sirobi (mostly black calico) who is soft and cuddly but a complete bitch to other animals. Itchy had a brother named Scratchy who died of a bladder rupture and a sister named Lessa who died of liver failure.

Mary-Jane (who was male...don't ask) and Sirobi had two kittens; Chewbacca (all black) who will stay in any position you put him in and sleeps 20 hours a day, and Weed (blondish-buff color) who is a great big teddy bear.

Then I got Missy from a friend who couldn't keep her. She's a 16 year old grey tiger who acts every bit the crotchety old lady, down to her raspy excuse for a meow.

From the pet store came Nala and Screech. Nala is gorgeous and looks like the cat version of a Siberian Husky in color, even the blue eyes. She's utterly retarded and skittish. Screech is my only long-hair, all-white and very friendly. He'll walk on his hind legs for a treat.

Then I got Gabrielle (grey tiger) to go as a match to Xena. Mostly I call her "little-baby-girl-cat" which she responds to better. She's fully grown and healthy, but is tiny and weighs 4 pounds.

Next came Meatball (male grey and white) from a family member who found him as a feral kitten outside. He has adjusted to domestic life, but has a habit of thinking of me as his mother. He follows me everywhere and when I pick him up he starts kneading and suckling on my shirt. He has issues.

My favorite is Monkey. He is a little guy I got from the pet store when I went in to get food. He popped out of his cage, onto my arm and that was that. He's white and grey with a skinny little frame and huge eyes and he's an absolute nut-bag. He chases anything that moves and plays like a dog. He follows me wherever I go.

There will probably be more...I'm a sucker for furry things.

kitties

I don't have the menagerie that Dave does...but I know plenty who do.

Personally, I have 3 cats currently: Chelsea, Casey, and Peaches.
Chelsea was my first. She's a seal point Siamese. Loves people and is very vocal when she isn't getting the attention she feels she deserves. And for those of you who have never heard a Siamese scream, count yourself lucky. It's an unnatural sound - like an animal being tortured. She used to make the same ruckus when she made the road trip home with me from college - and it's NOT fun on a three hour ride.

Casey was her "brother" - he's a blue point Siamese. Not as vocal and not nearly as loud) - he was missing his sister (or so the woman said who had given me Chelsea to begin with). They were separated all of a month, and I thought Chelsea was going to kill him when we tried "reuniting" them. She definitely liked being the only/top cat. But they quickly re-established their close bond. To this day, Casey still pushes her away from the food bowl.

Peaches was my final acquisition. She's a tortoise-shell point Oriental Shorthair. Now, Chelsea may caterwaul, but Peaches' screeches are like nails on a chalkboard. She belonged to a breeder and had been kept in a cage for most of her 10 years. She still runs/walks funny - like she doesn't know how to use her leg. Reminds my mother of a kangaroo's hop. She sounds like a herd of elephants when she tears around the house. But she's proven to be the most loyal/affectionate of all three - she hates strangers and will hide readily when they approach. But she always greets me when I came home - she starts screaming as soon as she hears my voice.

The people who have 20 or more cats we refer to around the office as "collectors." They get a new cat at least once a month. Many of the office staff at the clinic do rescue work and will have at least one or two litters of kittens up for adoption at any one time. I hate to say it, but please, spay/neuter your pet (especially if you let them outside) to avoid excessive procreation. I'll get off my Bob Barker soap box now 🙂

Excellent point, Des. All of my "kids" are fixed and get all thier shots on a regular basis. Most vets and animal hospitals give you a discount on multiple animals...and I've probably bought my vet a new boat over the last eight years. 😎

just one kitty now.

I had two kittys...Aesop and Wraith, however Aesop was hit by a car...nobody stopped...nobody asked in the neighborhood whom he belonged to..I really hate that. So now its just Wraith and I. He's a one kitty demolition crew...but we keep each other sane. Sort of
😀

Sorry

Sorry to hear about the inconsideration you and your beloved pet were shown. We often get HBC's brought in with no id and no way of contacting someone as to how to handle the situation. If the animal can be stabilized, we do our best. If it is suffering, we usually will euthanize it. But we keep the remains a few days...in case we hear from an owner who wants peace of mind.
With all sorts of new technology these days, Ogre, you might think about microchipping or some other identification method if your cats go outdoors. The latest thing I heard of at one conference was retinal scanning - painless and affordable (or so they told me). We don't have it in our area, yet...but who knows? Food for thought.

thanks des

Thanks Des,

Actually, he was chipped and wore id...its just the fact that person who hit him..left him there on the side of the road. The neighbor was the one that found him. It was the inconsideration of the driver that infuriated me...to run over an animal...and not even stop to ask about it....truly bad form.

3:
Misty: Grey in white with green eyes. Overweight and slow moving most of the time, unless being challenged for the head of house. Largly inactive, except for screaming at dinnertime and figthing with the other 2.
Oreo: Undisputed runt. Stray cat, dad's co-worker found her in a snowbank. From the name, you may have guessed, shes black and white. Hates strangers but loves affection. Invites herself to sit on whomever happens to be sitting on the couch. She dosent meow properly.
Callie: Calico (who'd a thunk?), stray - apparently she was pitched out of someones car, so you can imagine how FUN it is to take her to the vets. Shes the 1st cat who actually sleeps in my room and follows me around. 🙂 Answers to many names 😉

and to round out this lot we have an adorable Rottweiler, 8 years old, 145 LBS, and a great piece of mind (espically after seeing one too many horror movies)
