Because if there are, we ALL know that Major Motoko Kusanagi needs it. Really, really bad. Not only is she a total brat who turned Batou's affections away at every turn, but it'd probably help her freakin' relax a litte.

Plus Batou needs to get her back for being such a cold so-and-so (I can't bring myself to call her a bitch directly XD I likes her). Any takers?

Don't forget, Motoko may have a girlfriend. There's a civilian girl who's very rarely seen- she's not part of Section 9. Anyone know if this is this her lover?

Prosthetic bodies give me the creeps.

What if yours shuts down and no one comes to help you? Your soul could be trapped in that body for days, weeks, months, even years and then there's the implication of transferring one's essence (aka one's soul or ghost) to a fake body. When you can do that, you can tamper with the soul itself! You could even download a person's soul to a piece of synthetic crystal or silicon and access them whenever you want. I can see it now...homeless people being rounded up and having their minds downloaded into microchips to be sold world wide. God, I can't think of anything more awful.

They should just use nanites to repair damage to a body.

You've GOTTA read the book "Glasshouse" by Charles Stross.....

In that version of the future, it takes a few hours (or a few MINUTES depending on the speed of your equipment) to download and COPY yourself, and then assemble a new body. People routinely change forms, sexes, and species, and make multiple copies of themselves when needed.

This technology makes people virtually immortal and invincible, BUT it also presents some of the WORST nightmares imaginable, on a par with what you said; this stupendously mind-boggling book touches on some of those potential horrors.

Cause once you can digitize a human mind, you can also make alterations to the person's behavior. At that point you can totally rape the person's free will; does ANYONE doubt that there are humans rotten enough to commit such atrocities if they could? Until that element (the sick compulsion to dominate others) is eliminated, EVERY technology WILL be used for maximum evil sooner or later.



...Actually, there WAS a "Ghost in the Shell" episode where something like this happened; a serial killer hacked his victims brains, paralyzed them, and forced them to watch THROUGH HIS EYES as he skinned and murdered them(!)

Uh.....I'm pretty sure none of this is true at all. While in the original manga Motoko was basically bi-sexual, she's never been hinted to be male in any way. Granted, there are various continuities, but I don't recall one where she wasn't stated to have been female.
