Hi everyone,
Since this section of the forum is designed for general discussion I decided to open a thread about role playing games, one of my favorite way to pass free time. I kinda ran out of ideas of what to play. Some of the rpg's I played and enjoyed were Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age:Origins, Vampires the Masquerade Bloodlines and Mass Effect 2. While they are great games I start to find them dull because I know almost everything that happens throughout them and would like to play a new good rpg. As for mmorpgs WoW is a great game but it lacks certain aspects like enough character customization, and for certain classes you need certain races, races that you might not like. Lineage II was also a good game but the Anime look of characters and certain other things I disliked, mainly being strictly dependent on others made me lose interest in a few months. .Last but not least I tried Aion online, which I think is the best mmo but earning money is really a pain (in WoW and L2 it seemed much easier to gain money) so I abandoned it too. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

You could always try Warhammer Online. It's mostly PvP. The Witcher is also interesting. A few years ago I bought a game called Culpa Innata. There's no real action in the game like fighting, you're basically a detective in a futuristic world trying to solve a murder. It's a lot more interesting than I make it sound, though.

Yeah the witcher is a really good one, and if you don't mind some outdated graphics, morrowind is excellent.

If your talking about Tabletop RPG, I'd recommend Pathfinder and to stay far FAR AWAY from D&D 4th Edition.

Star Wars: Saga Edition is also a fun game (of course it's been discontinued but fan content is still being produced).

There is of course White Wolf but the people who play that usually allow their player's to behave like villains and not like heroes (and thus I stay far FAR away from it and them).

As for video games, um, I'm guessing your not a fan of the classic RPG's (aka Lunar, Final Fantasy, and a few others). I'd like to recommend something for that but personally the only thing I'm looking out for is a Pathfinder Roleplaying Game video game for the PS3 (or of course an old Final Fantasy [like VI or VII] remade for the PS3).

Sadly, nothing like that has yet to have been announced.

I see that Dragon Age is on your list, and as a fellow fan of the game, I should ask if you have played the Awakening expansion for it.

hmmm gaming huh?

well for the group table top setting 4th edition dnd is pretty much the most popular out there. ( and personally i like it more than the first 3 editions and i was a huge fan of first !) I never played war hammer but my friends that do make jokes that they needed to pick up a second job to support their habit.

and far as video games ...yeah Bella has that right Dragon age rocks the house.....but the expansion for the price fell pretty flat :/

FF13 looks beautiful but the story line can be summed up with the phrase "needlessly complicated
."

so if your a solo gamer go pick your self a copy of dragon ...but i warned you about the expansion 😛

The expansion for Dragon Age was a letdown. But they are working on a sequel. You can read about that at pc.gamespy.com. There isn't much info about it, but at least we know it's in the making now.

Warhammer isn't as time-consuming as WoW since you don't really need to do that much PvE, but that also depends on the server you play on, too. Right now it seems everyone and their mom has restarted on Badlands. So the server I was playing on looks like it was hit by the black plague... I'll be honest though, after a few months I have gotten sick of the game. Too many people take it too seriously and will do anything to win, even cheat. And there are many ways to guarantee your victory--just bring about 5 bright wizards to the party and have them all cast AoE and firebomb the shit out of everyone, they can't possibly win. It's a lot of grief. When Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out, that may be an MMO worth playing if you're into lightsabers and the force.

Monster hunter is a good game, not much of a story but it has lots of character customization(armors, weapons, stats) and can be difficult but fun.:sleep1:

If your talking about Tabletop RPG, I'd recommend Pathfinder and to stay far FAR AWAY from D&D 4th Edition.

I've heard some 'mixed' reviews of that one myself. I prefer the old fashioned 2nd edition.

Star Wars: Saga Edition is also a fun game (of course it's been discontinued but fan content is still being produced).

Like that one too; more a fan of the older version my self. Though what really sucks is that they (WotC) took all that stuff down.
It wouldn't bug me too much if my last compy that had almost everything they'd made hadn't crashed!! 😛issed

(or of course an old Final Fantasy [like VI or VII] remade for the PS3).

on the Wii they have a sequel to Final Fantasy IV, if you like(d) that one.

I love pretty much anything made by Bioware. I see you've already played Mass Effect 2. What about the first one? Either of the two Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic are good too - although for KOTOR 2 I recommend a restoration mod, which you can find on knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com. LucasArts rushed the developer, and... let's just say that, toward the end, you notice some missing pieces. Also, you may have to enter a cheat to get proper Jedi robes. I still rate it a 10 out of 10 though, as I do its predecessor. Unfortunately, Neverwinter Nights - while still the game that had a huge impact on my life - is past its prime. I enjoy playing around in its included toolset, however.

I have a friend who swears by Guild Wars and it's expansions. I can't really give you a description that will do it justice besides "it looks pretty." The website has a free trial, so pick that if you so desire. I used to play it myself, but it's just not my cup of tea anymore.

There's a singleplayer "Diablo-clone" called Torchlight, that basically encourages player modification. It's fun for people who like to jump in, kill some monsters, and jump out. The modification aspect counts as customization, right? xD
