I need to get the gear bushings replaced in my car. It's a 1981 Ford Laser 5 speed manual, what will the job be like? Would it require a great degree of skill or should I be able to do it on my own? Does my car need to be taken apart? Most importantly, what's this gonna cost me? I recently had to get the alternator and regulator replaced, then it needed a new carburettor... Someone told me if I don't get the bushings replaced soon I won't be able to change gears and I'll have to drive around in 1st all the time. :sadcry:

I've swapped a few transmissions but I paid a pro to rebuild 'em.

Did you do the labor on the alt., carb? If you did, go to the library and look for your car and the gear directions. However, do not
rush in without a very good understanding of the job. If you've paid for the labor on the alt. and carb I suggest you pay again. Safety
is not negotiable.

They shoot horses, don't they? Don't mind me, I'm punchy!

thanks a lot. I didn't do the labour on the other jobs so I'd better pay for it this time as well.
