Any way to play new .avi clips without loading divx codec? (question only, no clips)

i would like to view the digimon clips but i am using my work computer and i dont want to download any codecs onto it. does anyone know a way i can play these without downloading divx? i hate downloading codecs becuase they always act like they will play every format and they go in and take over your computer. thats why i havent downloaded quicktime on this machine to play .mov clips because ive downloaded it before on other machines, then it sets itself up in internet explorer to play mpgs in the IE window and i dont want that. any help on the divx question would be appreciated. thanks.

As far as I know, you need the codec to view .avi files. BUT, I've downloaded it, and it hasn't associated itself with any file types -- .avi's come up automatically in Media Player once the codec is loaded, and they'll play fine there (mostly). Some .avi's will really only play with the DivX player, but the digimon clips work fine in Media Player with the codec.

So, if my experience is anything to go by, there's no harm in downloading the software.
