I am SO looking forward to seeing this movie. Just having the Peter Jackson name on it should make it good alone.

I usually don't judge movies based on trailers, but this looks insanely interesting. The buzz on it is almost universally positive, and I for one can really dig an "alien invasion" movie where we're the bad guys.

Well, I'm going to see it....anyone wanna go? I'll buy the popcorn and nachos! :cool

ooo nachos yum....don't yell....but i've never heard of Peter Jackson...eeks..and i never go to movies..i wait for them to come to pay per view..

I am definitely going to see it. There is so much social commentary in it.

I think I'd be way more into seeing it if I weren't afraid that it'd get all preachy about how terrible mankind can be.

Never heard of Peter Jackson? The Frighteners? King Kong? Lord of the Rings?

I'm unfamiliar with District 9. What's it about?

Christopher

Yeah - SO have to see this movie! (Well, I see movies in the theater about once every 1.5 weeks - BUT THIS IS DIFFERENT! This is going to be one of the AWESOME ones I'll see as frequently as a comic-book movie. :redface🙂
I really hope Jackson comes out with another amazing picture! :ggrin:

I'm confused personally. it looks cool don't get me wrong, but i'm getting an "independence day" meets "transformers" vibe from it. what, did megatron get a flying saucer now or did i miss something?

Guess we'll have to wait and see what it holds....

I think I'd be way more into seeing it if I weren't afraid that it'd get all preachy about how terrible mankind can be.

That is abit of a concern here, too. Apart from that possibility, it looks like a promising twist on the sci-fi trope. There's been hardly shit of interest to me for over a month at the theaters, so if i hear mostly good things from people I usually trust, I'll probably give it a whirl.

This movie and "Inglourious Basterds" (yes, that is the proper spelling) are the two I want to see the most.

It's very good. But, make sure you give credit where it's due. It's directed and written by Neill Blomkamp. Peter Jackson's just a producer

Yes, this is true. I just mentioned Jackson as his stamp on basically anything these days usually means it's good. He's a guy with real vision and always takes his projects seriously. I'm going to see it this weekend, if everything goes according to plan.

😱 ... Wow. And that kind of pales in comparison to how the movie ended up panning out. I give MAJOR props to Mr. Blomkamp for being SO involved in the creation of this fantastically amazing piece of media! :ggrin:

I mean - and now, I'm NOT trying to give any inclusion of spoilers (but if I'm seen as doing so, please remove this whole post, or the parts that you see as ruining any of the fun [likely meaning all]) - It started out how I thought it'd be, kind of like a documentary on how the, Hutu (I think that's the right group :huh) would view the Tutsi, but with the semblance of looking much more humane, at least.
- Then it popped that idea RIGHT OUT OF THE WHOLE STINKIN' LAKE! :scared The initial direction of the movie jumped off that trail, and started a coompletely DIFFERENT one, with ideas of that change only a little ways before.

And I think the computer graphics were amazingly done! My only 'potential' irk with this movie, is how similar the aliens were to humans (in that they had the same basic template as a human body would), and more of a curiosity as to how they were eventually understood... :huh

Interesting how there's buzz about a movie like District 9 here. I went to see it yesterday afternoon, glad I did. There is probably a lot that people can read into it... the corporation assuming control... the 'experiments'. As for how the aliens lived, well that's how a lot of people live around the world. Not trying to spoil here, it's pretty much all in the long trailer.

read through the credits to see if there were any hints of a sequel; if this gets big box they just have to do one. btw, Jackson used the WETA special effects shop who also did stuff for LoTR, no wonder they look good.

I just saw it last night and it really wasn't my type of movie, Waaayy over the top violence with puuking and blood and guts exploding in your face.
Halfway through I had to think to myself "what was this movie about again ?"
And then someone else would be masacred and then I'd go "yeah I remember now, an alien snuff flick" and then another persons head would explode in a shower of grey matter.
So yea, if you don't like that kind of stuff... stay away and if you do... its the best movie of the year

I just got back from watching the movie, and I'm afraid I ended up being quite disappointed with it. A promising idea about how people justity mistreating inconvenient minorities never gets carried to its potential, instead dissolving into a seeminglessly endless gun battle.

Foreword: I'll try to limit spoilers to nothing/minimal.

Humans don't need justification to be dicks. We're dicks. When you screw with the way of life for an entire group of people, there's going to be some severe backlash. The further away from civilization you stray, you'll see less attempt at justification and more insanity. No offense to anybody, but Africa is already a 3rd world hellhole. Introduce a million aliens from another planet who need housing, and you're basically sticking your dick in a bee hive.

As for the "endless gun battle", you need action for a great movie. Movies without action are not worth watching. But that's just my two cents. They're ALIENS for crying out loud. They've got to have some cool energy weapons to show off.

With all that said, I felt it was a very accurate portrayal of how humans would react to aliens coming to earth. I also felt that the main human character was very realistic. He wasn't some ultra-muscular guy with nerves of steel who can just jump into a fight and kick like 5 guys asses. He's a selfish douchebag.
