Hi all,
I run a small informational website. Some of you would have seen bits of it. I try to keep track of how many people view it in, say, a month, but I have two separate sets of statistics. The hit counter on the home page says that about 15,000 people have viewed it, ever. I've also checked that it does actually tick over each time the page is loaded, indicating it should be accurate.
On the other hand, a separate stats feature I can access says that for the best part of three years, about 3000 per month have accessed the site, and most of them view all or nearly all pages on the site. To me, this means that a lot more than 15000 people have viewed the home page. Is there something I'm not understanding about how the hit counter works? Which set of data should I believe?
I'm using Just Host, and the statistics feature is called Awstats, if that makes a difference.
