I been looking for places that still sell the old PATA or EIDE hard drives and not too many do. Newegg sells some but they are all OEM plus I have to pay CA sales tax which is a lot these days. Anyone know of some good places? Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you considered the magic of eBay? They have a larger selection than I expected and if one goes with a seller who has moved many units (thousands) one is no worse off in terms of safety than with Newegg.

What's wrong with OEM, though? I am curious on this, as you're not likely to find retail (i.e. boxed) hard drives for a standard that old anywhere, at least not at a decent price.

Thanks I will look at Ebay. 🙂

OEM's usually dont have the widdle jumper wires needed to determine whether the drive is master or slave. I saw this on Newegg from some of the people that bought OEMs

You can buy the jumpers at any mom and pop computer store, of the asian guy down the street that's good with computers.

If Newegg and Tiger Direct don't float your boat, eBay would be a good way to go, as long as you make sure the seller has sold lots and lots of equipment and has great feedback.

Kurch, I buy OEM drives all the time, and to this day have not had a single one fail on me. The drives themselves you can pick up at http://www.newegg.com/ and at http://www.directron.com/index.html. Of course you can find them at many other places, but those are the two places I've bought from for years and trust. You can also pick up jumpers through Directron for 4 for a dollar.

Back to the jumper issue, if you have any small computer repair shop near you, just walk in and ask for a couple. They are bound to have a ton lying around and I would be shocked it they didn't give you a couple. But even if he wants a buck for them, get em. Good luck.
