anyone have any favorites? anyone still play at arcades? if so, which games?

i have a high score of 3rd place on Crisis Zone. it's just like The Time Crisis series, but you get a machine gun, and it's only 1 player. i love the game. and in this arcade, it's always packed with people always playing it, so 3rd place is alot. others would include the whole Time Crisis series, and L.A. Machinegunners, which is a very fast paced game which is really fun.

I myself used to smack around the Q*bert machine near my apartment until it begged for mercy. Man, I love that game.

(Bignorm, "Horn of Gondor" is cracking me up)

I mostly watch people play, and think of how wonderful it would be to be the developer of a game that can draw such a large crowd.

But my all time arcade fave was Saboten Bombers. I simply can't get enough of its cute whackiness!

glad you like it. never played q*bert, but it must be fun. i'm not much for fighting games, but i wanna start playing Soul Caliber 2, it's low priced for an arcade, and it's got great action and graphics. gotta love eye candy!

Dude, that's awesome. yeah, Q'bert Ruled. Lets see...Galaga was cool. That Don Bluth Dragons Lair game was awesome along with Space Ace. I would spend most of my money in the old Star Wars game though.

I used to be heavily addicted to Bad Dudes and Altered Beast.

altered beast was an arcade game? sweet! i used to have that on Sega way back in the day.

isn't that the game, where your a muscular guy and you can turn into this beast? right?

Ohh, great topic....child of the 80s here, and I had an honest-to-goodness, quarter-muncher arcade two and a half blocks from my house growing up.

Anyway, my favorite game ever was Track and Field by Konami. A close second was the original Galaxian (the precursor to Galaga). I played basically every game before the "fighting game" craze (before about 1989), but I also really liked Defender, Defender Stargate, Venture, Crazy Climber, Gyruss, Star Wars the Arcade Game (also had this for the c64), Donkey Kong, Galaga....well, you get the idea....

Once I got to college (1990), Smash TV was awesome! I spent hundreds on that game!

You would be correct on both accounts.
In fact, when I heard that altered beast came out on Sega, AND that my friend bought the game(he had a sega), I practically wet myself. We spent entire weekends playing that game. But we could never beat it!

Ah well. At least we didn't have to cough up quarters any more. 😀

oh ya, i could spend hours on that game! that game was pretty damn bad ass.

oh man i gotta geth that game on my computer emulator!

ok lemme see...some of my old time faves...Roadblasters, Solar Warrior, Zoo Keeper, Xenophobe, Robotron, Centipede, Sinistar (that game is still a bitch, unless you know the bug how to get 255 free lives) 🙂

I was good at Q*Bert until you get to the part where the blocks change back totheir original color if you hit them a second time...hated that.

Dragon's Lair rocked. That was the best "show-off" game in the arcade! If you could finish that in front of folks, they would all just marvel at your skill, unaware that the machine crunched god knows how many of your quarters for you to get that good.

but the three games I was the best at was Nintendo's Punch-Out, Dig Dug, and Tapper. For those of you who don't know, in Tapper you played a bartender and you had to sling beers to thirsty customers, and then catch the empties when they slid them back to you. (sponsored by Budweiser of course).

New school

I am young and so my favorite arcade game were the simpson's one where you walk around fighting stuff, and i am partially to dance, dance, revoultion. I also loved metal slug and marvel vs capcom.

oh i love that simpson's game, i beat the one twice, once with marge, and the other with bart.

Hell yeah, i remember playing the simpsons with my dad and just having a great time. Maybe not the most inventive game but still fun nonetheless. BTW bignorm your signatures rule!

oh yes, that was good fun.

glad you like them, i especially like the MC Hammer Grammar time one, to get people to type correctly, lol.

i was gonna put another very funny one on, but someone the TT is already using it.

I think my favorite Arcade Beat'em Up was Michael Jackson's Moonwalker.
YOU DO A MICHAEL JACKSON SPIN KICK DANCE MOVE TO KILL ENEMIES AS A SPECIAL MOVE! ITS CRAZY!

But yeah, The Warriors (On PSII) has A really cool mode after you beat the game, called "Armies of the Night" which is A really cool Warriors take on Double Dragon, its the coolest. Hahaha.

I'm A big King of Fighters Fan, although those are rare to find in Arcades anymore. I also like All the other fighting games in Arcades. I'm king of Soul Calibur 2.

Can't say I've been in an arcade recently, and definetely can't say I have played that many arcade games in the past.... Altho I can remember killing a whole afternoon (and like a jarful of tokens) finishing the Die-Hard arcade games with a buddy. I think that was back in '95 or '96. The game itself was a fighting game, and there were cutscenes where you had to press buttons to jump obstacles etc etc.

Only downer was once we beat the end boss the damsel in distress turned on us and said "there can only be one hero". Thus my buddy and I looked down at our coins, shrugged and walked away (As opposed to using ALL our tokens to kill each other senselessly).

My favorites were always those 4-in-1 NeoGeo arcade machines that let you pick from different games. There use to be one near my house in a comic book store that I would play all the time. It had King Of The Monsters 2, Blues Journey, Samurai Showdown 2 and my favorite, METAL SLUG!! Or "Contra on crack" as I used to call it. LOL

Aside from that I loved the big multiplayer arcade games like The Simpsons, Golden Axe, etc. Nothing was cooler than having 4 people tearing through a game at the same time. There was a 6 player X-Men game at an arcade in the local mall that was awesome too. My best guy was Nightcrawler....

You know you can get all those games for your computer in the form of emulators right? For those that are interested and use download programs like Kazaa, Aries and the like, look for the programs "Mame32", "Callus" and "NeoRageX".....

my favorite fighter game was Primal Rage, since at that age, i friggin love dinosaurs, man i loved that game.

of i course i loved the entire mortal kombat series, nothing like hordes of uneccesary gore.

anyone remember Killer Instinct? that was cool, and the only place that had it was my local skating rink.

I always loved Tekken, and I was pretty good at the Virtua Fighter series, too... Also, for a while, a small group of us in the ASU arcade (back in around 1998) elevated our skills in Samurai Shodown 4 to a level that was nearly spiritual.

However, I have never loved an arcade game as much as I loved the original Marvel vs Capcom. The gameplay was so deep... The graphics were so beautiful... And the ability to team Street Fighter's Ryu with the legendary Captain America is still one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game.

I could sit there as Cap and Ryu and defeat challengers all day long. I miss those days... 😀

omg yes! i loved marvel vs. capcom 1 and 2! i always loved Jill Valentine as my main character, and had a kick ass all female team.

You know, I really have to get the latest version of MAME so I can dig out the roms and start playing again.

I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet, but I also loved Donkey Kong, Jr. And what's this? No love for Pac-Man? 😉 I was obsessed with this game (as was the whole country!) when it came out... cities gave Pac-Man the key to the city, fer chrissakes...

Pac-Man was way before my time.

in my prime, there was sega and playstation.

Yes of course marvel vs capcom and all the different versions of it were awesome. I rebember playing as gambit and accedently doing his 42-card trick and literally sitting at the machine with my jaw dropped, it was the coolest thing ever. After that i acutally learned how to do moves and play. Haha good times.

Well if you want to go oldschool, my favs were PacMan, Dig-Dug and Bubble Bobble....can't even remember how much cashed I put into that one!.....

asutickler, I LOVE your sig by the way....laughed my ass off....
